Yamaha has unveiled the all new Yamaha MT-15 in Thailand. This new motorcycle is based on the Yamaha YZF R15 v3 sold in the Indian markets. It is a naked version of the R15 v3 and follows the design language of the bigger Yamaha MT-09.
New Yamaha MT-15 Engine and Performance
Inside, the new Yamaha MT-15 runs on the same engine as the R15 v3 – a 155cc liquid cooled, single cylinder, SOHC engine. This produces 19.3bhp power and 15Nm of peak torque. It also features Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) technology. This allows good low- and mid-range performance without compromising on top-end delivery. The motor comes paired with a 6-speed transmission, assisted with a slipper clutch.
The suspension system consists of a pair of 37mm gold painted USD forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear with preload adjustment. The braking system comprises of a 282mm front and 220mm rear discs. It runs on 100/80 R-17 front and 140/70 R-17 rear tires. It gets a small 10 liter fuel tank.
Yamaha MT-15 Design
The design screams MT-09 all over. It borrows many design elements from its bigger brother. The new design gives it an aggressive stance and a streetfighter look. New predator styled LED headlights are a standout feature. The new tank is designed with sharp lines just like the MT-09. The sharp looking tank shrouds are also similar to the MT-09. It also gets an all new fully digital instrument cluster similar to the one on the R15 v3.
The new MT-15 replaces the older 150cc Yamaha M-Slaz. Will this 2019 MT-15 make it to the Indian market? There is no official statement yet. But, going by Yamaha’s track record of not launching the M-Slaz yet in India, the chances are very slim.
