Yamaha’s next launch is the Duke 125 competitor – the Yamaha MT 125. However, it is extremely unlikely that this small displacement sporty motorcycle will ever arrive on the Indian shores. The Yamaha MT 125 is going to be launched in Europe on October 16.
The teaser image shows the front headlights of the MT 125 which is strikingly similar to the MT 15 on sale in India. However, the motorcycle will run on a smaller 125 cc single-cylinder engine. This engine produces just 14.7bhp and 12.4Nm of torque through a six-speed gearbox. The engine appears to be borrowed from the Yamaha YZF R125.
Yamaha MT15 Review – Watch Now !
The Yamaha MT 125 is not a performance champion by any means. However, with a small and lightweight body, it will be no slouch either. This makes it a perfect candidate for a sporty commuter. But the motorcycle does not skimp out any features. It will get features that can be seen on much higher displacement motorcycles like LED headlamps, inverted telescopic front fork, and rear mono-shock, front and rear disc brakes with dual-channel ABS, fully digital instrument cluster, etc.
But we are not sure that Yamaha plans to also bring this motorcycle to India, a country where low displacement motorcycles are always in demand. The Reason? The MT 125 is currently not being manufactured in India. Without a lot of localization, the price will be very high for sales to be good. Also, Yamaha already sells the MT 15 which is very similar even performance-wise. Launching the MT 125 may also eat into MT 15 shares.
