Mahindra launched the XUV300 yesterday and when asked about Automatic variant, it was hinted that it will be launched soon. The XUV300 will first get the AMT, and an automatic version will be launched at a later date. Mahindra is looking to adopt this strategy as a makeshift solution. The XUV300 is very likely getting the AMT sourced from Magnetti Marelli, which does its duties on the TUV300.
The AMT box will be available on both the petrol and diesel engines. The XUV300 has many segment-first features but sadly misses on on AMT. Sure, the addition of the AMT will pump up the prices by a dear 40,000-50,000 over the W8 variant but will make the XUV300, a complete package. The fact that XUV300 garnered about 4000 bookings before the launch speaks about its popularity. The addition of the AMT box will only make the demand surge higher.
Going by the timeline that BS6 norms will kick in 2020, the AMT variant should be available for purchase in the next three to four months. The AMT box will be likely offered only on the top of the line W8 variant. Only time will tell if AMT will be available on the W6 variant, making it a little more affordable to the masses.
The conventional torque converter unit will make its way along with the BS6 compliant engines in 2020. Though the engines on the XUV300 are BS6 ready, the vehicle needs to be tuned accordingly. Mahindra confirmed that the XUV300 with BS6 engines will only be launched after the BS6 norms kick in.
The XUV300 retails for INR 7.90 lakhs ex-showroom for the base W4 petrol variant. Prices go all the way up to 10.8 Lakhs for the top end W8 Diesel.
