Volvo XC60: Volvo, Swedish automotive maker is keen on locally assembling its model in India. Last year, the company has begun locally assembling at Volvo Trucks’ Bangalore plant. The company has claimed to manufacture the XC90 SUV in the country earlier and after that, they announced to locally assemble the S90 sedan. Here is another mid-spec SUV which the company has planned to locally assemble. The model is XC60 and it’s confirmed by Volvo.
As we have already reported that Volvo has introduced the all-new XC40 and at the same event, Volvo Car India MD Charles Frump declared to local assembly the XC60. The company said to soon start the project in the second half of 2019. He further added that XC60 is running successfully in India. There is a huge fan following at present for the model in the country. For now, the XC60 is shipped through the CBU route. So, local assembling could lessen the price which will boost more sales. The XC60 is available at INR 57.90 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
According to Frump, “The new XC60 has been a tremendous success for us. It’s our best-selling product line at the moment, making up almost 25 percent of our volumes. In terms of pricing, our models have been priced very aggressively compared to the competition. We have made our investment by pricing our CBU models competitively, and would look at making up for it in the CKD phase.”
Volvo is increasing the production line in India so it can also plan to locally assemble the all-new XC40 in future, but we are not sure about it. XC40 is now imported as a CBU unit in the country with a price tag of INR 39.9 lakh( ex-showroom) and competes with the luxurious Audi Q3 and Mercedes-Benz GLA. The company is forcefully increasing its range in India and they have declared to establish more dealership and service network here. They are set to establish up to five showrooms this year.
The sporty XC60 runs on a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder diesel powertrain generating 235hp of power and 480Nm of peak torque. The engine is combined with a powerful eight-speed automatic transmission. It has also acquired the 2018 World Car of the Year award. The model is a feature-packed variant with gives a tough competition to its rivals latest BMW X3 and the Audi Q5. It is the first model to get radar-based safety systems to feature in the country. The radar systems of Volvo has got official authorized by the Indian Government.
