The Volvo XC40 based on the compact modular architecture, the youngest SUV, is all set to be launched in June 2018. This car was unveiled in September 2017. A few dealerships have started taking bookings for the car, although the company hasn’t made an official announcement. The deliveries are expected to begin by the end of next month.
The Volvo will draw power from the petrol T5 engine or the Diesel D4 engine, both of which will have 4 cylinder and will be turbocharged. An 8 speed Aisin automatics gearbox will also come along. The power produced by the D4 engine is 190 Ps at 4000 rpm and 400 Nm of torque between 1750 and 2500 rpm. The petrol T5 engine produces 245 bhp power. a plug in hybrid of the volve XC40 is planned down the road. The volvo is reported to have a front wheel biased system where the rear wheels gain power only when traction is lost by the front wheels. The exterior of the car features ‘Thor Hammer’ LED headlamps and a grille similar to that on the XC60. The volvo rides on 18 inch 5 spoke alloy wheels. A raked rear windshield along with an integrated roof spoiler makes the car look amazing. The sporty look of the car is enhanced by the presence of twin chrome exhausts, blacked out roof and L shaped LED taillamps. The XC40 is based on the 40.1 concept showcased in May 2017. The volvo XC40 resembles the likes of XC60 and XC90. The ‘Pilot Assist’ is also an unique feature of the Volvo where anyone authorized by the owner will be able to run the car without the key.
The 9.0 inch Sensus touchscreen infotainment system has connectivity to Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The comfort and storage options of the 5 seater volvo is beyond question and the carmakers do not compromise with luxury. Local manufacturing of this car is expected in future as soon as the brand brings in necessary support to produce CMA architecture. Mercedes Benz GLA, BMW X1 and Audi Q3 are the potential rivals of the volvo XC40. The car is expected to come at a price ranged between Rs. 35 lakhs -Rs. 40 lakhs (ex showroom Delhi).
