The Volvo XC 40 SUV has received highest ratings and five stars under the new testing regime of Euro NCAP in 2018. The Volvo XC 40 SUV is the first car to win the European car of the year award. The new 2018 testing regime of Euro NCAP was the toughest with more demanding challenges on safety. It includes tests like cyclist – detection with auto brake and emergency lane keeping systems – AEB City, AEB Inter-urban, AEB Pedestrain. This cas has received the highest safety score amongst the ones tested till now.
The Volvo XC 40 SUV has scored 97 percent in adult occupant protection. Besides that the SUV obtained 87 percent child occupant protection and 71 percent i vulnerable road users protection and 76 percent in safety Assist systems. Therefore the Volvo XC 40 SUV follows the XC 60 and XC 90 as one of the safest on road car. The XC 90 was crowned the overall best performing large off – roader and the best overall performer in the prestigious Euro NCAP 2015 Best in class safety awards. The XC 60 too received the same in 2017. Therefore all the Volvo cars on sale have received the Euro NCAP safety awards.
Malin Ekholm, head of Volvo Cars Safety Centre said, “The new XC 40 is one of the safest cars on the market. It comes standard with the largest offering of safety technology of any small SUVs, helping driver’s detect and avoid collisions, remain safely in their lane and reduce the impact of accidentally running off the road.”
Michael van Ratingen, Secretary General, Euro NCAP said, “It’s good to see that the manufacturers in the premium sector are responding to our tough new requirements introduced in 2018 by fitting technologies that will save life.”
The SUV’s passenger compartment provides good protection of all critical body areas including the lower leg of the occupants. But the protection of chest of the rear occupant is rated marginal in the Euro NCAP whereas they rated the protection of all the other body parts good. The XC 40 was announced as the 2018 European car of the year in March. Since it has been one of the best selling cars, in May the manufacturer has announced to expand its production facilities in China and Europe as well. Volvo, the Swedish luxury car company established its presence in 2007. Now it has dealerships across India in Ahmebabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Coimbatore, Delhi NCR, Jaipur, Kochi, Kozhikode, Kolkata, Luvknow, Ludhiana, Mumbai, Pune, Raipur, Surat, Vishakhapatnam and Vijayawada.
