Volvo and Uber have recently revealed a self-driving car concept which is the result of their partnership. Volvo Cars are popular for its automotive safety, and Uber, the famous ride-sharing company. The new car can be driven automatically without any assistance. The Volvo XC90 is available with some semi and fully-autonomous safety features. So, it was not tough for Uber to efficiently initiate the process and convert it to the fully self-driving system.

It is the first step towards autonomous cars in Uber’s network which can be available for ride-sharing service in future. Volvo self-driving production concept has many fascinating features which have been never seen before. The SUV has been integrated with various back-up systems for both steering and braking duties along with powerful back-up battery power. The back-up features will help the car to immediately stop if something goes wrong with the self-driving concept.

The autonomous Volvo XC90 is integrated with an array of sensors atop which are exclusively developed to enhance the car in terms of safety and great for running on urban roads. Previously, Previously, Volvo has also shown their interest in developing a similar entry-level car concept which will be another autonomous project. The aforesaid car will come with Volvo cars badge and is expected to be revealed in the year 2020. However, these cars will be introduced as an only operate hands-free in apparently preferred areas like expressways.

Commenting on the new reveal, Håkan Samuelsson, President and Chief Executive of Volvo Cars said, “We believe autonomous drive technology will allow us to further improve safety, the foundation of our company. By the middle of the next decade, we expect one-third of all cars we sell to be fully autonomous. Our agreement with Uber underlines our ambition to be the supplier of choice to the world’s leading ride-hailing companies.”

According to Eric Meyhofer, CEO of Uber Advanced Technologies Group, “Working in close cooperation with companies like Volvo is a key ingredient to effectively building a safe, scalable, self-driving fleet. Volvo has long been known for their commitment to safety, which is the cornerstone of their newest production-ready self-driving base vehicle. When paired with our self-driving technology, this vehicle will be a key ingredient in Uber’s autonomous product suite.”
