The German carmaker company Volkswagen is officially going to unveil its compact SUV offering- Taigun on March 31, 2021. But before the most awaited period to get fulfilled the first official images of the production-spec Volkswagen Taigun have been leaked online.
Volkswagen’s Taigun shares many similarities with its Czech cousin Kushaq. Both the models are built on a heavily localised MQB-A0-IN platform. Taigun would be the group’s second model that would be launched under India 2.0 programme. Let us quickly understand Volkswagen Taigun.
Exterior of Volkswagen’s Taigun
Taigun was presented to the audience last year at the Auto Expo as a pre-production concept. The exterior looks are inspired by VW’s entry-level crossover in international lineup T-Cross. Alike styling is also noticeable in the India-spec T-Roc. The variant one can see in the leaked images is the top of the line Volkswagen Taigun GT Line.
It is expected that the model would be 4.2 metres with a wheelbase of around 2.6 metres. The exterior has styling features such as flanked LED projector headlamps, slatted VW grille, LED DRLs and connected LED taillights.
It’s interior
As one takes a glance at the interior of the Taigun he may find that the interior of the model is similar to that of its European counterpart T-Cross with a dual-tone interior theme with contrasting treatments. The quality of the interior material is of premium standard. The group seems to give their best with gorgeous features like 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment compatible with Android Auto and Apple Carplay, automatic climate control, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, etc.
To name a few other alluring features of the model that may attract the car lovers towards it are leatherette seats, an electric sunroof, ambient lighting, wireless charging system, connected car technology, cruise control and electrically adjustable driver’s seat. The car is expected to design keeping in the mind the safety of its passengers that include features such as a rear parking camera, an electronic stability control (ESC), Multiple airbags, ABS with EBS, parking sensors and a tyre pressure monitor.
Its Powertrain, Transmission options
Taigun will also borrow the engine options from Kushaq just like its underpinnings. The Taigun is expected to be offered with two powertrain options- a 1.0-litre TSI turbo petrol unit and a 1.5-litre TSI turbo petrol mill. The powertrain options- a 1.0-litre TSI turbo petrol unit is good enough to return an output of 114 bhp and 175 Nm of peak torque. A 1.5-litre TSI turbo petrol returns 148 bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque. The Transmission options are expected to comprise a 6-speed manual as typical with the choice of a 6-speed torque converter on the 1.0-litre unit and a 7-speed DSG on the 1.5-litre unit.
Expected Price
The expected price of the upcoming SUV of the company is likely to fall under a range of Rs 10-14 lakh (ex-showroom). The model is expected to give a tough competition to its rivals like Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. The model is expected to arrive at the Indian showrooms for its buyers by Diwali this year.
