The smallest SUV from VW group – the Volkswagen T–Cross will make its global debut on 25th October, 2018. Volkawagen had already revealed the details of the Europe based T – Cross model and now the company reveals the some details related to the model manufacturer specifically for the emerging auto markets of China and Brazil. This SUV will be showcased at the Sao Paulo International Motor Show to be held in Brazil in November this year. However, this model is likely to launch in India as well but at a later stage sometime in 2020.
The Volkswagen T–Cross is developed on the MQB AO IN platform. The India based Volkswagen T–Cross SUV will marginally different from the Europe spec model in terms of exterior and will come with its own unique exterior design. The T – Cross for the emerging market will sport chorme finish on the grille and on tailgate and verticaaly placed LED daytime running lights. However, the top of the line variant is likely to come with full LED headlamps. The safety features on the Volkswagen T–Cross SUV includes traction control, electronic stability control, ABS with EBD and hill hold assist.
Moving to the cabin, the Volkswagen T–Cross SUV features an eight inch touchscreen infotainment system, a dashboard and centre console. The top of the line variants will be equipped with a 10.25 inch instrument display. Volkswagen offers an optional interior package with the T – Cross SUV, which allows the customers to determine colour coded bits of their choice for the dashboard and the centre console. The interior of the SUV comes with an ambient lighting. Powering the India based T – Cross is a new 1.0 litre TSI turbo petrol engine, which makes 115 PS power and 200 Nm torque. Both manual and automatic with dual clutch transmission options will be offered.
Once launched in India, the Volkswagen T–Cross SUV will rival with the Nissan Kicks, Renault Captur, Tata Harrier and Hyundai Creta. The Volkswagen T–Cross is slightly small measuring 4199 mm in length and 1568 mm in breadth while the Creta measures 4270 mm in length and 1780 mm in breadth. However, the T – Cross has a larger wheelbase measuring 2651 mm and the Hyundai Creta has a wheelbase of 2590 mm. The cabin of the T – Cross SUV is more spacious compared to the Creta and the rear seats are adjustable to provide greater legroom or greater accomodation for cargo as per the need.
