After China and US, its turn for Europe to get the all-new model of Passat. Volkswagen has recently un-wrapped the Passat facelift saloon and estate before debut at Geneva motor event. The new version of the mid-size sedan has received many outstanding features which makes it different from other models in the range. The 2020 Passat is scheduled to be launched at Germany later this year.
The sedan has been designed beautifully with sleek lines and sporty front. It has got some amazing styling modifications such as a new bold bumper at the front, fog light, DRL’s, and an attractive grille. The car is also equipped with all-new LED matrix headlights which the company calls IQ.Light. At the rear, the sedan is outfitted with three-dimensional LED taillights, a new rear bumper and dual exhaust set up. It sits on bigger 17- to 19-inches wheels.
The company has also introduced new shades: Lapiz Blue, Bottlegreen and Sandgold. It is attached with Passat badge on the mid of the trunk lid which looks similar to the superior Arteon. It sits on bigger 17- to 19-inches wheels. These are the few changes which were spotted in the new model. The facelifted version is more modified inside the cabin in terms of technology. The technological features get great improvement which makes it impressive.
The cabin of the all-new Passat is integrated with 11.7-inch MIB3 digital instrument cluster which comes with an upgraded graphics display, high-grade brightness and a greater pixel density. It is available with display options including 6.5-, 8.0- and 9.2-inch displays. It also supports SIM card connectivity, voice controls, GPS navigation, Apple CarPlay, and many other features.
The new Passat runs on a 148bhp 1.5 TSI Evo petrol engine for the standard variant along with 187bhp and 268bhp variant of the 2.0 TSI turbocharged petrol powertrain. It also gets various filters as standard. It will come in four types of diesel option that includes a 1.6 TDI/ 118bhp, 148bhp 2.0 TDI Evo with particular cylinder deactivation, 187bhp/ 2.0 TDI without the cylinder shutdown, and the existing 237bhp BiTDI variant.
The plug-in hybrid Passat GTE is also modified with new features. It now comes with 9.9kWh to 13.0kWh battery package and claims up to 34 miles (55 kilometres) in electric mode under the WLTP testing regime. The 115kW 1.4 TSI turbo petrol engine is combined with a powerful six-speed DSG automatic.
The standard mid-size sedan also gets electromechanical brake servo as standard. The company has developed the beauty with predictive cruise control, lane assist, emergency steering assist, trailer assist, and park assist. The U.S. variant of Passat is also said to get updated by 2020. The bookings of the VW Passat facelift is expected to start from May this year in Europe.
