Mahindra has been working on the new generation Mahindra Thar. Now for the first time, the new Thar has been spotted. Though highly camouflaged we could still figure out a few things.

First of all, you can clearly see that the new Thar is bigger than the previous one. It looks longer as well as wider than before. Launched in 2010, Thar will now get its major update after a decade. Though it got a mid-life facelift in 2015 no major update. From 2010 Thar has been chosen by the enthusiasts for its rugged build, Jeep inspired looks and off-road capabilities.

Mahindra can take help from the Italian design house, Pininfarina to design the new Thar. The new Thar will get an all-new chassis. As the new safety norms are coming up. The new Thar chassis will get ladder-frame chassis, stronger than before so it can handle the new crash test norms. The new platform will also be shared with Bolero.

Thar will also get a new BSVI complaint engine. Because of the current 2.5 litre, CRDe engine cannot adhere to the new emission norms. Low range transfer case and 4X4 drive will stay along with some more off-road specific features. Mahindra will also be focusing on interior comforts. As Thar only comes with bare and bones features And is not the most comfortable car.

The spy pictures also show the canopy, dummy lights and small steel rims. But we guess Mahindra will also offer a Hard top version. Parked beside the Duster an Innova the new Thar dwarfs them with its street presence. Mahindra will also export Thar multiple countries. New gen Thar should get ABS and dual airbags at least as standard. It might also get a better infotainment system probably a touchscreen unit.

Mahindra will launch the new Thar somewhere between 2019 and 2020. It will compete with Force Gurkha which recently got a bigger engine.  We will keep you updated about more news on the upcoming Thar.
