Mahindra has finally revealed the name of its new MPV and yes it is Marazzo. Mahindra has this habit of ending the names of their cars with ‘O’. The U321 had no exception as well. Marazzo means Shark in Spanish and there is a hint of the deadly predator in the logo.
The car in question will be launched in India before Diwali. The features that have already been revealed by the company are new-age Mahindra grille, boomerang-shaped tail lamp, shark fin antenna and elongated headlamps with LED eyebrows and are DRLs. North American Technical Centre with inputs from Mahindra India and Pininfarina has designed this four wheeler. This is the first one to be designed in this centre. The in-house design studio of the manufacturer at Kandivalli also pulled in some designing inputs.
“The shark-inspired Marazzo symbolizes the next generation of aspirational Mahindra vehicles. A collaborative effort of Pininfarina, Mahindra Design Studio, MNATC and MRV, Marazzo is born of a vision to design a global vehicle with quality and refinement keeping in mind the aspirations of our customers,” are the words of the Managing Director, M&M limited,Dr Pawan Goenka at the name reveal ceremony. The Nasik facility in Mumbai will be used as the construction of the car.
Rajan Wadhera, President Automotive Sector, M&M Ltd. said, “The intense process of development and refinement of the Marazzo is comparable to any global vehicle and incorporates a number of innovations. This has delivered better space, smoother ride with a quieter cabin, best-in-class cooling, excellent safety and a tough body construction in the Marazzo. Infact the Marazzo has the largest footprint (wheelbase x front track) of any Mahindra vehicle. I am confident that it will set a new benchmark and become a gamechanger in its segment”.
The car will run on 1.5 liter diesel engine and churn out a power of 121 bhp and 300 Nm. A six speed manual transmission is offered as standard with the customers to chose from the automatic gearboxes. Mechanical details of the car has not yet been revealed. It is expected to come sometime later during the long gap before which the car won’t be released. Toyota Innova Crysta and Tata Hexa are the immediate rivals of the MPV. However the price will be much less than its competitors.
