Triumph Motorcycles India is all set to launch the Tiger 1200, previously known as ‘Explorer’ on 11th May of this year. This adventure motorbike by the British manufacturing company will be their first launch in this financial year. Bookings for this high ranging bike has already begun at a price of Rs. 2 lakhs.
The bike draws power from a 1215 cc in-line-three-cylinder, 4 valved, liquid cooled engine producing a maximum power of 141 Ps at 9350 rpm and a maximum torque of 122 Nm delivered at 7600 rpm mated with a 6 speed transmission gearbox. LED headlamps and Arrow exhaust are the standard features of the bike. The instrumentation panel has a TFT colour screen. A two way quick-shifter, semi-active suspension, cruise control, hill hold function, an electrically adjustable windscreen, cornering headlamps and integrated braking system are the standout features of the Triumph wonder. The off road pro mode of the bike disables the ABS and traction control of the bike. This is available in the XC models of the bike. The present bike is 11 kgs lighter in kerb weight, resulting in 242 kg. The bike has a shaft drive type and has a fuel injection system. The braking system is handled by front disc of 305 mm and rear disc of 282 mm. The wheelbase is 1520 mm. The fuel capacity is 20 L. the bike is 1470 mm high.
The chassis of the triumph bike is tubular steel trellis frame. The front suspension specifications are WP 48 Upside down forks, rebound and compression damping adjustment on fork caps, 190 mm travel. The rear suspension of the bike is handled by WP monoshock rebound dumping adjustment, hydraulic preload adjustment, 193 mm wheel travel. the front tyre specification is 120/70-R19 and the rear tyre specification is 170/60-R17. They are allow wheels of 10 spokes covered by tubeless tyres. The throttle response of the bike is really exceptional with no jerkiness. The bore is 85 mm and the stroke is 71.4 mm. the compression ratio is 11.1. The clutch is wet, multiplated hydraulically operated and torque assisted.
The bike comes with 6 riding modes namely, Road, Rain, Sport, Off road, Off road pro and Rider defined. It is versatile and rugged at the same time. The estimated price of the bike is Rs. 18 lakhs (ex showroom). The bike is going to face rivals like BMW R1200 GS Adventure and Ducati Multistrada 1200 enduro.
