The second product from the Suzuki-Toyota partnership, the Urban Cruiser now finally has a launch date. The Toyota Urban Cruiser India launch date has been set for 23 September, which marks the first compact SUV for Toyota in India.
In terms of design, the Toyota Urban Cruiser will get more design tweaks compared to the Glanza, the first product from the Suzuki-Toyota partnership. The Urban Cruiser will get a new front grille, revised bumpers, giving the Urban Cruiser a more distinctive look. Apart from these changes, the Urban Cruiser will remain similar to the Brezza.
The interiors too, will look identical apart from minor changes, such as brown upholstery and Toyota badges replacing the Maruti Suzuki ones.
Speaking of the variants, the new Toyota Urban Cruiser will be available in three trims, namely, Mid, High and Premium. Similar to the Toyota Glanza, the Urban Cruiser is based on the mid-spec variant and above of the Brezza, so we can expect the mid-variant Urban Cruiser to be well-equipped.
Speaking of equipment, the Toyota Urban Cruiser that is set to launch on September 23 will get LED headlights, auto climate control, keyless entry, and more. Other features will include a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, cruise control, 16-inch alloy wheels, and rain-sensing wipers to name a few.
Like the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza the Urban Cruiser is based on, the sub-compact SUV from Toyota gets a petrol engine only, a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder unit that makes 105 bhp with the help of either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic gearbox. The automatic variants also get Maruti’s mild-hybrid technology that helps save fuel.
When launched on September 23, the Toyota Urban Cruiser will compete with the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport, Hyundai venue and the soon-to-launch Kia Sonet.
