Finally the two big houses of Toyota and Suzuki shook hands and announced a collaboration among themselves on this Thursday. They have decided to sell each others’ car in India. Suzuki have agreed to provide its best selling Baleno and Vitara Brezza in exchange for Toyota’s popular sedan Corolla Altis. Here Suzuki outsells Toyota 11-1, depending on the deal between them. “Details on each model, such as the schedule of the start of supply, number of supplied units, vehicle specifications, and supply pricing, will be considered at a later stage. This announcement is a part of a basic agreement toward the mutual supply of hybrid and other vehicles between the two companies for the Indian market”, is the joint briefing provided by the companies.
Well this isn’t the first time though, the companies had announced a conclusion of a memorandum towards business partnership back on 6th February, 2017. In fact they have been in a research and development alliance since a year.
Maruti Suzuki chairman R.C. Bhargava said that Vitara Brezza and Baleno would be tweaked outwardly to avoid similarity when Toyota sells them, who will also go by the same policy. “In terms of functionality, though, the vehicles would not change at all,” Bhargava further added. Deepesh Rathore, the London-based co-founder of Emerging Markets Automotive Advisors, commented that Toyota would work on the interiors and some other features of the Suzuki cars before selling them under their level.
Although its time before these cars wear new badges, i.e April-May 2019 and they are expected to be sold by Maruti Suzuki India Ltd and Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt Ltd and their subsidiaries in India. This entire deal gives Maruti a highway to D-segment with its bestseller and Toyota finds its way into premium hatch and compact SUV so its guessed that both companies are going to profit from this. This partnership is predicted to be one of the reasons for the economic growth in India.
