Concept cars give us a peek into a carmaker’s plans, along with the direction the automotive industry is headed towards. Auto shows that take place around the world prove to be the best stages and the Indian Auto Expo is nothing short. Here are the best concept cars from the Auto Expo.
Top Concept Cars At Auto Expo 2020
1. Maruti Suzuki Futuro-e Concept
Big car manufacturers often have a trick up their sleeves and the Futuro-e was a show-stopper. The Maruti Futuro-e Concept features an SUV-ish stance with a coupe-like finish towards the rear. With Sleek headlights, the Futuro-e gives us a glimpse of what Suzuki’s future design could look like.
2. Tata Sierra Concept
The Tata Sierra Concept attracted a massive crowd and it earned just that. The concept vehicle retained its original window designs at the rear and even took it a step further with a glass roof. Although the Sierra won’t go into production anytime soon, it could get an electric motor if Tata decides to mass-produce it. For now, it’s a concept we enjoy.
3. Skoda Vision IN
The Skoda Vision IN won the best concept car award and the concept is the Volkswagen group’s latest design language for future SUVs. The Vision IN concept showcases Skoda and Volkswagen’s MQB A0 IN platform that will underpin all the SUVs from the two manufacturers for India.
4. Tata HBX
The Tata HBX concept made its debut internationally and was showcased in India at the 2020 Auto Expo. In 2020, the micro SUV was kitted out to take on any terrain, in its production form. Called the Tata Hornbill at the moment, this will soon be available in the market, slotted below the Nexon in Tata’s lineup. Set to take on the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso and the Mahindra KUV100, the Tata micro SUV is due to launch in India this year.
5. Kia Sonet
Kia was one of the highlights of the 2020 Auto Expo and the spotlight was on Kia’s upcoming product, the Sonet. The sub-4 metre SUV from Kia, the Sonet is due to be launched soon and when it does, the Kia Sonet will take on the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, and the segment’s best-seller, the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. The Kia Sonet is expected to use the same petrol and diesel engines offered with the Hyundai Venue, including the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine.
6. Mahindra Funster
The Mahindra Funster concept is exactly what the name says — a Funster Concept. The roofless SUV features scissor doors and an electric motor to power the car. Mahindra may not put it into production anytime soon, or at all, so this concept will stay so for a long time.
7. Renault Symbioz
The Renault Symbioz concept first made its appearance at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. The Symbioz is Renault’s take on the future, an all-electric autonomous car. The reason it was showcased at the 2020 Expo — to highlight Renault’s technological advancements in the automotive industry.
8. Hyundai Le Fil Rouge
The Hyundai Le Fil Rouge also made its first Indian debut at the 2020 Auto Expo after making its global appearance at the 2019 New York Auto Show. Again, the Le Fil concept was showcased at the Expo to showcase Hyundai’s design and the basis on which the new Sonata was designed.
9. Roewe Vision-i Concept
The other exhibitor that gained a lot of attention was MG and on display was the Roewe Vision-i Concept, that represents SAIC’s future design. First displayed at the 2019 Shanghai Motor Show before its debut in India, the Roewe Vision-i is the first car in the world with 5G connectivity and inline with the future, is autonomous.
10. Haval Concept H
Last but not least, is GWM (Great Wall Motors) from China that had a huge display of vehicles. Among them was the Concept H, which has a high possibility of making it to India shortly. No details were revealed, however, the Concept H will be an electric SUV, targeted at younger customers globally.
