The Auto industry is dealing with a huge slowdown with sales figures dropping lower compared to the past couple of years. While August 2019 displayed a huge dip in the sales with even segment leader and best seller Maruti Suzuki Dzire only sold 13.274 units. But September bought some improvements over the overall sales and marginally better MoM sales.
The better sales are due to lucrative discounts being offered by almost every manufacturer as well as the festive season being around the corner. The sales are further expected to increase in October 2019, but first, let’s talk about the top 10 selling cars of this month. As it has always been the case Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai rule the Top 10 list.
Leading the pack is India’s most selling compact sedan, Maruti Suzuki Dzire with sales of 15,662 units, which is 18% better than last month, though still 26% lacking compared to YoY sales of 2018. While the Dzire takes the top spot the Maruti Suzuki Alto is not far behind with sales of 15,079 units with MoM growth of 49%! In fact, let me tell you that Top 5 list is all lead by Maruti Suzuki Only.
Coming in at third spot is the hatchback variant of the Dzire the Maruti Suzuki Swift with sales of 12,934 units with just 4% MoM, and overall YoY is down by 42%! The new tallboy WagonR also manages decent sales number with 11,757 units with MoM growth of just 3%. NEXA offering Maruti Suzuki Baleno comes at 5th place with 11,420 units and MoM growth of 3%. Even the compact SUV segment is lead by Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza with sales of 10,362 units and MoM increase of good 46%. Coming in at 7th and as a second choice to premium hatchback offering after the Baleno is the Hyundai i20 with sales of 10,141 units and MoM of 43%.
Maruti Suzuki Eeco is the only offering left in the van segment after they phased out the Omni, so it gets n0. 8th spot with sales of 9,949 units. The last two positions are acquired by Hyundai with Grand i10 and Venue. With the launch of the Grand i10 Nios, Hyundai managed to sell decent numbers 9403 units while Venue sold 7,942 units. So that makes it & cars from Maruti Suzuki and 3 from Hyundai. Maruti Suzuki has 49.6% market share and Hyundai has 18.3%. Mahindra coming in at this with a 6.3% share.
We expect the sales to further increase in the festive season and see better MoM compared to September next month. Newly launched Maruti Suzuki S-Presso sold 5,006 units, the numbers should increase next month and S-Presso can make it to Top 10 list.
