As 2019 comes to an end, we had a fair share of ups and downs in the automotive sector. Though the industry faced major slowdown this year, quite a few new entrants came and anticipating cars were also launched this year. To have a brief recap about this year’s cars google released the top 10 most searched cars in India in 2019.
This list has its fair share of participants with different manufacturers, and no domination of one manufacturer (as opposed to sales charts). This gives us a fair idea of what interested people the most this year. So let’s get on with the list, starting from the bottom and going all the way up to no 1 spot.
10) Toyota Glanza
Toyota Glanza, a rebadged Baleno, so why are people interested in buying one? Quite simply, if both cars are exactly the same when it comes down to the aftersales service and brand name. First of all the warranty provided by Toyota is longer than Maruti Suzuki, second is that people already having a Toyota are more happy to stay within the brand. Alliance with Maruti Suzuki has been a beneficial one for Toyota, and it has some more product lineups for the future.
9) Hyundai Grand i10 and Grand i10 Nios
Hyundai Grand i10 has been on the list of top 10 selling cars this year almost every month. The car is spacious and gets a good set of engines, add that to Hyundai’s interior quality, which makes the Grand i10 a great choice. With its successor coming in as Grand i10 Nios, the customer now has a choice for a more premium and smarter looking car. Hyundai sells both cars side by side, which accounts for increased sales and reach.
8) Renault Triber
Renault’s most exciting launch of the year the Triber lands in at 7th place, and it deserves it. Renault has shown everybody what space utilization can be reached under 4m. People with a budget of 5 people hatchback, can now get a Triber at the almost same price with better space. As of now it only gets a three-cylinder 1.0-liter petrol engine, but the engine is quite peppy and efficient.
7) Honda Civic
After 7 long years, Honda bought us back the much loved Civic in its 10th generation. Honda Civic really had or even has a great fanbase in India. So it makes sense so many people searching for it when it came back. This time Civic came with a good set of engines but weirdly chosen gearbox options. While the 1.8-liter petrol-only came with an AT, the 1.6 Diesel only got a manual transmission. Still last month Honda Civic sold the most in its segment, beating Skoda Octavia, Toyota Corolla, and Hyundai Elantra.
6) Kia Seltos
An unfamiliar brand name to most of the non-enthusiast people is now on the ming of every prospective SUV buyer. Reason being the highly successful Kia Seltos, which single-handedly made Kia’s top 4th selling car manufacturer in India. Every car has some downsides and some positives. But Seltos with its long list of variants and engine options suits every buyer looking for a car between 10 to 20 lakhs.
5) Mahindra XUV 300
Initially starting off with good sales and even maintaining good numbers now, XUV 300 is a good buy under the 4m SUV segment. Ssangyong Tivoli’s cousin has one of the best safety features in the segment and a good set of engines. And what more it is all set to get an electric powertrain.
4) MG Hector
Like the Kia, MG also came with a great product for our country and set its foothold well in India. Using innovative features and its “Internet Inside” badging to let people take notice. It also has the same engine as the Jeep Compass, along with loads and loads of features. The SUV has been doing good numbers monthly. Taking some share of fame from the Mahindra XUV 500 with its attractive price tag.
3) Toyota Fortuner
Suprise entry from Toyota comes with the Fortuner. No offense Fortuner is a capable off-roader and rugged, reliable big SUV. But it’s not very new in the market, so to see it in the 3rd number is the thing to wonder. Maybe still a lot of buyers fantasize Fortuner as the next big upgrade from their present SUVs. With Toyota’s bulletproof engine, it is the top-selling SUV in its segment.
2) Hyundai Venue
Coming in hot at the second place is Hyundai take on the 4m compact SUV segment which was lead by the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. Hyundai Venue came in with its own set of connected features and three sets of engines, along with a Turbo petrol mated to a DCT. It has been giving neck on neck competition to the segment leader Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza after its launch.
1) Maruti Suzuki Baleno
Expected? As monthly a yearly sales Maruti Suzuki makes it to the top of this list too with its Baleno. So the 10th and 1st car on the list is the same, just different badges. And what impact does a badge makes you can see. It has owned the premium hatchback segment since its launch. It has good space at the rear and Maruti good old set of engines. Its event gets a CVT as automatic and not the cheap AMT solution.
