The automobile industry has been a fast pace industry, if not this lockdown and pandemic we would have some launches lined up every month. Spy shots, reveals, launches and facelifts, something always kept happening. But due to this lockdown things haven’t been the same, several launches have been put off.
Today we take on the list of top 10 car launches that are ready to come in the market as soon as the lockdown lifts. Launched that has been in pipeline and even some that were delayed because of the lockdown. The list is very exciting and it includes all segment – hatchbacks, sedans, compact SUV, Full-sized SUVs.
1) Fifth Gen Honda City
This launch was so close to happening in Goa around the mid-March but then was postponed due to the pandemic with no further details. Although almost everything has been revealed or leaked for the new Honda City. We also shared the dimension of the car and the variants it will come in. It is longer and wider than before but has the same wheelbase.
Features such as LED headlamps, LED tail laps, inbuild Alexa, TPMS, traction control etc are offered. Powering the Honda City is the 1.5L i-VTEC petrol motor which makes 119hp. Also, the 1.5L i-DTEC should be offered too. Both engines will get CVT automatic an option.
2) MG Hector Plus
MG Hector is already a hit product, and MG prepared another homerun with MG Hector Plus. A 7-seater variant based on MG Hector which was revealed at the Auto Expo 2020. MG had plans to launch it earlier but now the launch has been pushed further to June 2020.
It gets an extra row of seats along with few changes in the design compared to the Hector, the length has been increased by 40mm. A chrome deleted grille, subtle front skid plate, different LED headlamp design and simple rear design. The engine will be sourced from the Hector and will remain the same. It will rival XUV 500 and Tata Harrier.
3) Kia Sonet
Do they even need anything except the Seltos? Just kidding, but the Seltos oversells all the SUVs and more than some brands whole lineup. While Kia Carnival was a brand-building exercise. Kia is ready to come into the compact SUV space with the Sonet.
Based on the Hyundai Venue platform, it feels to have a bolder presence. LED DRLs and headlamps, a big skid plate and rear also carries the same bold design philosophy. Interior gets Seltos like treatment, 8-inch touchscreen with UVO. Engine options will be the same as Venue, 1.2L petrol, 1.0L turbocharged and 1.5L Diesel.
4) Maruti Suzuki S-Cross Petrol
Maruti Suzuki has officially put a teaser on their website about the S Cross Petrol coming soon. There is nothing much that will be changed except the petrol engine, which will be a BS6 compliant 1.5L petrol motor. After the diesel engine discontinued S-Cross has been unavailable. But it will come with the 1.5L petrol engine which also comes in Ciaz, Ertiga, and Vitara Brezza.
The motor is called K15B SMART HYBRID which makes 105ps and 138Nm of torque. It will also get Maruti Smart Hybrid technology.
5) Tata Altroz Turbo
Tata Motors was launched back in January to rival Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Hyundai i20. And as with Tata trend nowadays it also got a 5-star Global NCAP rating in a crash test. The design was striking with especially the rear design with LED tail lamps and blackened out elements. In the cabin, it had blue ambient lights, 7-inch touchscreen display, powered tailgate, 4-way adjustable driver seat and 348-litre boot capacity.
But the engine option was not very exciting. Especially the 1.2L, 3-cylinder which made 86ps of power and 113Nm of torque, which was sufficient at best. But now Tata will introduce 1.2L turbocharged variant which will make 100bhp and 14Nm of torque. It can be mated to a 5-speed manual or a dual-clutch automatic transmission.
6) Renault Duster Turbo
Nissan has already revealed that their new Nissan Kicks will come with the 1.3L turbocharged petrol. But the same engine will also come in the Renault Duster. And Duster fans will not need to wait much longer as it is gonna come soon after the lockdown. The 1.3L turbocharged motor will make 156ps of power and 254Nm of torque, same as the Nissan Kicks. Bu one thing exciting about the Duster can be if Renault pairs the engine with a 6-speed manual, along with the CVT option.
7) 2020 Mahindra Thar
Well, every off-road enthusiast out there is waiting for the new generation Thar. We have seen a countless number of spy shots. The new Thar is bigger in every dimension from the previous one. It will come in a 2-door variant with soft top and hardtop options. Safety has been addressed with ABS, EBD, all-wheel disc braked and rear parking sensors.
The engine will also be updated to a BS6 compliant 2.2L Diesel and we can also see a 2.0L petrol engine making a debut in the Thar.
8) Nissan Magnite
Sub 4 metre SUV space has become one of the most happening in recent years. Now we have a lot of options for that segment, now Nissan is also ready to launch their offering in the segment – Magnite. This is a big opportunity for Nissan as they are struggling to get some sales numbers.
Recently we showed you the teaser images of the design and the compact SUV looks bold. It is designed on the CMF-A+ modular platform. It will come loaded with features such as automatic climate control, touchscreen unit, LED headlights and taillamps. The engine on offer will be 1.0L 3 cylinder NA engine around 72ps, and a turbocharged variant with 96ps of power.
9) 2020 Datsun Redi Go
Datsun has officially teased the images of 2020 Datsun Redi Go. Its all set to launch in upcoming months and it will come with a host of new features and changes. The front looks imposing with new L-shaped large DRLs and new headlamps along with the big grille. Tail lamps will be updated to although spy images did not reveal that.
Inside there will be a new touchscreen unit, can be the same as Triber, safety features will be standard such as dual airbags and ABS, along with high-speed warning system, reversing sensors and reverse parking camera. Both the engine will be BS6 compliant – 0.8-litre and 1.0-litre petrol engines.
10) Toyota Urban Cruiser
No, the rebadge game hasn’t stopped, it’s here to stay. So after the Baleno, Vitara Brezzawas next in line to get the rebadging treatment. The SUV will be called the Toyota Urban Cruiser. Quite a good name for a softroader. First of all, don’t expect much changes as with the Glanza, there will be minor design changes and swapping of logos.
It will have a different grille and maybe a different headlamp design. The engine will be the same 1.5L unit in the Vitara Brezza. The price will be similar, but Toyota will offer a better warranty and extended warranty support.
