Earlier this month, we had revealed Tata Motors’ plan to take on the Automobile Industry in all the segments (erm.. well, almost all segments). The onslaught has begun with the launch of Tata Altroz at a price of INR 5.29 lakhs. On the very same day, Tata Motors has launched the facelifts of the Tiago, Tigor and the Nexon facelift. Along with the launch of the facelifts, they have announced the Global NCAP safety ratings of Tiago and Tigor.
It turns out that Tata Motors has really been going the extra mile. The Tiago and Tigor facelift have scored a 4-star safety rating in the crash tests conducted by Global NCAP. This is another feather in the cap, just in time because, last week, Altroz came out with a 5-star rating in the tests. The entire BS 6 lineup at Tata Motors has an excellent safety rating issued by the Global NCAP.
What does the test report say?
Adult Protection: 12.52 out of a maximum of 17
Child Protection: 34.15 out of a maximum of 49
Although the body shell was rated unstable and could not take further loading, the car offers good protection for the head and neck of the driver and the front passenger. The footwell area was also rated as unstable. Adequate protection was offered to the passenger’s chest and marginal protection for the driver’s chest.
Despite being devoid of 3-point seatbelts and the rear or an ISOFIX child seat anchorage, the duo managed to score a 3-star rating for child safety. The car was able to prevent excessive forward movement for the forward-facing 3-year-old dummy. The duo also managed to offer good protection for the 1.5-year-old dummy.
Standard safety kit on the Tiago and Tigor facelift includes dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, front seatbelt pre-tensioners and rear parking sensors.
