Along with the whole world, India is also slowly and steadily going electric. There are three main contenders in India, Hyundai Kona, MG ZS EV and Tata Nexon EV. Nexon is the most affordable and still packing sufficient features to compete. But sales figures tell a better story of success and we just have them today.
As you might have read the title, Tata Nexon EV has topped the sales figures of electric vehicles sold in March 2020. Tata sold 198 units of the car, even due to the market slowdown and lockdown happening later in March. We have been also showing you various deliveries of the Nexon EV happening around the country. The second position is taken by the MG ZS EV which sold a respectable 116 units, but Hyundai Kona seems to lose its initial pace and it sold just 14 units.
The reason behind the sales figures of the Tata Nexon is the pricing, it starts from 13.99 Lakhs (ex-showroom, pan India), while the MG ZS EV is almost 6 lakhs costlier and Hyundai Kona is 9 lakhs costlier. Due to being mostly made in India, Tata Motors could price it aggressively and still not compromise on battery and charging options.
It gets it to power from a 30.2 kWh lithium-ion battery which makes 129ps of power and 245Nm of torque. 0-100 takes only 9.9 seconds. It comes mated to a single-speed transmission and gets two power modes – Drive and Sports. Features such as Smart regenerative braking, Hill Ascent Assist and Hill Descent Assist are also available.
Then comes the battery warranty which is 8 Year or 1.6 Lakh km, while the gets warranty of 3 Year or 1.25 Lakh km. It can charge from 10-90% in 8.5 hours with a normal 15-ampere socket. While the CCS 2 fast charging will charge the battery to 80% in just 60 minutes. Tata claims a range of 312km on a single charge (as per MIDC cycle).
Tata offers the Nexon EV in three variants XM, XZ+ and XZ+ Lux priced at Rs 13.99 lakh, Rs 14.99 lakh and Rs 15.99 lakh respectively and three colour options Signature Teal Blue, Glacier White and Moonlit Silver.
