Tiago is a popular hatchback in the Indian market which was released back in April 2016. Recently, the car recorded cumulative sales of more than two lakh units in the domestic market. This news was officially declared by Tata Motors on Friday. Tiago has become the best-selling car of the company in a short time. The Tiago variants consist of the Wizz edition, Tiago NRG, as well as Tiago JTP models.
In just 19 months, the company sold 1 lakh units of the range. The hatch was also the first model of Tata Motor’s which was developed in an Impact design language that later produced models such as Hexa, Nexon and bigger Harrier SUV. The hatchback range is also sold at remarkable pricing. The prices of the models start from Rs 4.2 Lakh and reach high till Rs 6.49 Lakh.
Commenting on the achievement, President, Passenger Vehicles Business Unit, Tata Motors, Mr Mayank Pareek said, “The Tata Tiago is a testimony to the strong connection we have established with our customers by offering best in class features at a great value proposition. The Tiago continues to be one of the few models in the hatchback segment that is still registering positive growth despite being in its third year of production.”
He further added, “With 18 renowned accolades, the Tiago is the country’s most awarded compact hatchback. We are confident that the Tiago will continue to win the hearts of customers across India and thrive as a successful offering in the hatchback segment.”
In the year 2017, the company introduced the AMT version of the model along with XZA and XTA. Wizz special edition was also released to increase sales and attract more customers in the domestic market. In 2018, NRG and JTP variants were delivered which got great customer response. The top specs variant of the model features dual airbags and ABS with EBD as standard which is the new safety enhancement.
Tata Motors has offered two new engines variants of the hatch for its customers. The petrol unit runs on a 1.2 L Revotron motor which generates 85 PS of peak power @ 6,000 rpm and 114 Nm of peak torque @ 3,500 rpm. The petrol powertrain is combined with a manual as well as an AMT gearbox. The diesel unit powers 1.05 L Revotorq motor which churns out 70 PS of power and 140 Nm of torque. This motor is combined with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The company can also introduce a facelifted version of Tiago which will be updated in terms of safety and few designing tweaks.
