TATA Motors were a huge motor car manufacturer until 90’s when TATA Indica took the market share booming. Till 2016 TATA had just launched updated or newer versions of Safari, Indigo and Indica lineup and the demand for Indica and Indigo were more among Taxi companies. Though the car had a strong built and easy maintenance, was unable to impress private car owners. Following which TATA started their mission HORIZONEXT in 2013 – an aggressive customer focused strategy to regain the passenger vehicle market. TATA Motors since then has come up with some eye popping vehicles Like Zest, Bolt, Tiago, Tigor, Hexa and Nexon. The TATA Hexa is one of the premium product being offered by TATA.
TATA Hexa is one of the product in HORIZONEXT line up and is finest SUV till date from TATA Motors stable. The Car has been launched as a flagship product on Jan 18, 2017. The SUV was earlier showcased in 2016, Geneva Motor Show and made Indian debut in 2016 Auto Expo. Hexa is more of a MPV like Crossover with capabilities of a SUV and starts at INR 11.72 lakhs with 3 variants each in both petrol and diesel. The SUV lock horns directly with the successful running XUV5OO and recently launched Jeep Compass, remember the tag line from TATA motors – “Takes you anywhere. No compass required.”
TATA Hexa is sought to be replacement of TATA Aria, however, TATA motors claims it to be all new vehicle. The SUV is eye catching from both exterior and interior point of view. This time TATA has kept the level high in terms of quality. The exteriors has a huge road presence and is far above the TATA Safari Storme. The vehicle undoubtedly looks a premium SUV with its chrome lining in the front running under the TATA signature grill. The projector blacked out headlamps add more to its looks. The lower end of the front bumper has large central grill surrounded with matte grey and has two LED DRLs making the vehicle look complete. The rear has been dominated with the thick chrome line between the two large LED tail lamps. The rear bumper makes it look more SUVish with its grey cladding consisting of two exhaust pipe with chrome finish. The vehicle looks more premium with its 19 inch 5-spoke Alloy wheels in a two-tone black and polished shade.
The interior will make you feel premium with its all black interior with the same central infotainment system which is also available in Tiago, though it does not support Apple CarPlay or Andriod Auto but its works seamlessly through App based control system and can connect to Juke-Car App to play your selective music via your smart phone and also has navigation system with option of ambient lighting in which you get eight lighting colors. The dashboard will give you feel of leather as the plastic used are of top notch this time. The seating too is taken care off very delicately with leather seats and comfy cushioning with 8 way adjustable driver seat. The multi-functional steering wheel too feels classy with cruise control. Additionally, Hexa has inbuilt sun-blinds which is segment first and looks premium. It has a glove box which has ample of space to take care of your drinks. The back seats too have huge space as the vehicle is a seven seater. The rear seats accompanies rear AC vents and has 10 speaker Harman music system which will never let you miss your favorite track on the move.
TATA Hexa shares the same engine from its elder brother Safari Storme which is a 2.2 litre, four cylinder, turbocharged diesel Varicor engine which churns out 156 bhp with 400 Nm of peak torque. The power is delivered through either a six speed manual or a six speed automatic transmission. The manual has option for both all wheel drive and rear wheel drive setup. The car has also four super driving modes – Auto, Comfort, Dynamic and Rough road and thus it adjusts the performance of the vehicle basis the requirement.
TATA has recently launched a limited edition Hexa Downtown and its comes loaded with features and prices starting from 12.18 lakhs. The special or limited edition comes in just one Bronze shade with downtown badging with side steps and chrome package for exterior like wing mirrors, the grille surround, headlamps and rub strips on the sides. The interiors is loaded with a wireless charging, Blaupunkt entertainment screen placed in the back of front headrest, carpet set, tan seat covers which compliments the bronze paint shade and heads up display with Tyre pressure monitoring system.
The hexa has been making good sales number. However, it has to grow more in order to compete in Indian market where Hyundai Creta makes 10,000 marks on an average and XUV5OO makes 2500 marks averagely every month.
