At the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, Tata Motors has showcased a fascinating model H2X. Following the event, the carmaker unwrapped another mini SUV, which is a more powerful version, HBX at the Auto Expo 2020. The SUV is expected to be launched with Hornbill badge. It has raised the excitement amongst the automotive fans.
The SUV is a popular segment in the Indian automotive market that has a huge demand as well as competition. There are many car makers like Mahindra involved in making premium SUV models. The HBX will soon join the segment. The car has been spotted testing multiple times in the country in a production-ready concept. Although, the details are still hidden due to camouflage.
However, the structure of the Tata Motor’s Hornbill is enough to identify it on the road. The spy shot reveals many design details about the upcoming car. It seems that the company is ready to bring the Hornbill in the Indian market, after the ease in nationwide lockdown guidelines. The upcoming model is likely to get some bits from the recently introduced Altroz. Although, it will be heavily updated with premium features.
The mini-SUV will be developed on IMPACT 2.0 design platform based on Harrier SUV. It gets a strong roof set up with narrowed C-pillar. At the front, the car is equipped with separated headlamps and lowered round fog lights highlighted with the company’s traditional triple-headed arrow theme at the front bumper. The bright detailed taillight setup makes it sportier from the rear, making it unique.
Additionally, it gets fashionable windshield, LED DRLs, boxy wheel arches, new alloy wheels, pillar installed door handles and many more. It is larger and taller in dimension making it spacious inside the cabin. It is equipped with a new dash with the top-specs touchscreen infotainment system with Harman audio system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, semi-digital instrument cluster, and multi-function steering wheel. It is installed with a high seating position as well for comfortable driving.
The Tata Hornbill is expected to be powered by 1.2-liter Revotron turbocharged petrol engine making 86 hp of max power and 113 Nm of peak torque, similar to Altroz. The engine will be available with two transmission options: a 5-speed MT and 5-speed AMT. Before the HBX, the company will bring Gravitas in the market. The upcoming Tata Hornbill will rival against the likes of Mahindra KUV NXT, Maruti Suzuki S-Presso and Maruti Ignis, after the launch.
