Tata Harrier is finally here after lots of rumours, spy shots, and teasers. Tata Motors has today launched the most-awaited SUV of all times in India. Harrier is a mid-size SUV which is similar to Jeep Compass in the range. It is introduced in 4 variants: XE, XM, XT, and XZ.
The Harrier is developed on the latest OMEGARC (Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced) Architecture, based on the Land Rover D8 design that is produced in partnership with Jaguar Land Rover. The company has offered a 5-seater arrangement concept of the SUV while the 7-seater concept will be released later in 2019. It has got a genuine SUV footprint.
The design of the bold Harrier is based on the Tata’s Impact Design 2.0. The designing concept of the new SUV is based on H5X which was debuted at the Auto Expo 2018. It is outfitted with an attractive slit-like headlamp and a new Tata-esque hexagonal grille which will also highlight LED DRLs lower set-up fog lamp cluster. At the rear, the SUV geta thin LED tail lamps and all-black panel. It has received a silver skid plate at the front as well as the rear.
The company has attached the Harrier name at the rear centre. The top-spec variant is available with 17 inch 5-spoke alloy wheels whereas the base variant comes with 16-inch steel wheels. In terms of the dimension, the SUV is 4598 mm in length, 1894 mm in width and 1706 mm in height. The wheelbase is offered at 2741 mm and the ground clearance is 205 mm.
Interior & Safety
Inside the cabin, the Harrier feels like an extreme premium SUV. It is integrated with a semi-digital instrument console, a multi-function steering wheel and 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system which supports 9-speaker from JBL, auto climate control with rear-AC vents. The cabin has received chocolate brown detailing highlighting a floating dashtop mounted infotainment system.
The all-new SUV is equipped with high-end safety features such as ABS, cruise control, traction control, descent assist, rollover mitigation, electronic stability programme and electronic brake force distribution. It features Driver Assistance Systems that includes Terrain Response Modes which will help the driver to drive in all road conditions.
It draws power from a 2-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel powertrain which is known as Kryotec which generates 138 bhp of peak power and 350 Nm of peak torque. The motor is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and it is not available in automatic transmission. The SUV is built with a latest advanced suspension produced by Tata, Jaguar Land Rover and Lotus Engineering of the UK. The company has offered the vehicle in three driving modes including City, Sport and Eco. It features front Disc and Rear Drum brakes.
Prices & Rivals
The company calls the Harrier the safest SUV ever. It is tested in more than 300 Real Life Crash Scenario. The vehicle is available in exciting shades including Calisto Copper, Thermisto Gold, Orcus White, Telesto Grey, and Ariel Silver. The Tata SUV rival against Hyundai Creta, Jeep Compass and Mahindra XUV500.The prices for different variant of Tata Harrier are as follows:
