Tata Motors’ much-anticipated car, the Altroz will be showcased in December this year, followed by its official launch in 2020. Before the unveiling, however, the Tata Altroz official teaser video is out, asking if the world is ready to experience gold.
The upcoming Altroz premium hatchback has been spied numerous times testing all over the country, including Ooty, a hotspot for carmakers to test prototypes in higher altitudes. Recently, even the Mahindra Scorpio test mule was spotted here.
Coming back to the Altroz, the car is aimed squarely at the Hyundai i20, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, and the Honda Jazz in India, giving the premium hatchback segment a new dimension in terms of competition.
The Tata Altroz will have a choice of two petrol and one diesel engine to choose from. On offer is expected to be a naturally aspirated 1.2-litre petrol engine, a turbocharged 1.2-litre turbo petrol motor, and a 1.5-litre diesel.
All the engines will be BS-VI compliant, which could have been a major factor behind the delay in launch. Tata Motors initially wanted to launch the Altroz with a BS-IV compliant engine, however, changed its mind to offer BS-VI units from the beginning.
For those who are not up to date with the Tata Altroz, the carmaker first showcased the concept at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo, followed by a near-production model that made an appearance at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. Since then, there was no buzz, until the carmaker said it would showcase a production-spec car in December.
Also, what one needs to look out for is the Altroz’s competitors, who will see updates as well and the South Korean manufacturer, Hyundai, is already testing the updated i20 in India, which is expected to launch soon. If Tata manages to price it right, the Altroz could be a winning product for the Indian carmaker.
