Maruti Suzuki Swift was launched long back in May 2005, and it has hence reached a milestone now. The 2 million sales mark in the domestic market is a boundary that has been crossed by the automobile. Also, adding another feather to its cap, the newest generation of the same car is also a keeper. Within less than 10 weeks of its launch at the Auto Expo 2018, it has touched the one lakh sales booking line.
The Senior Executive and Director (M&S), commented on the grand success of their popular four wheeler, ” Swift achieving two million sales milestone is a proud moment for all of us at Maruti Suzuki India. With increased output aimed at reducing waiting period, I would like to reinforce our commitment towards Maruti Suzuki customers.”
The manufacturer had hence decided to increase their production by 45% to 139000 units due to its huge demand, from April to October 2018-19. The company also boasts of using the 5th generation HEARTECT platform, which provides the car improved rigidity and power to weight ratio, in turn improving the acceleration performance. The swift has always been the game changer for the company, providing some refreshment for the aging techniques and designing of the other Maruti cars.
The car had reached its first half a million in September 2010, completing the million three years later in the same month. The 1.5 million mark was not very far, coming in March 2016. The Alto and Dzire of Maruti also faces tough competition from this car. The Alto also has recently crossed the 3.5 million mark.
The swift runs in both petrol and diesel variants. Mated to either 5 speed manual or AMT gearbox, both the variants are equally popular. The K12 1.2 liter petrol engine makes 82 bhp whereas the 1.3 liter DDIS diesel motor makes 74 bhp. The fuel efficiency is 22 kmpl and 28.4 kmpl for the petrol and diesel engines respectively. This car is expected to have a long run.
