We all know that the Suzuki Swift Sport offered in the European markets looks a stunner. With a powerful engine to complement the looks, it is a very fun hatchback on offer. But what happens when Suzuki decides to make Limited edition of the Swift Sport inspired from their bike “Katana”.
Katana is a very special name for Suzuki. The Katana motorcycle pays homage to the iconic 1981 GSX1100S KATANA. The bike discontinued in 2006. But Suzuki bought back the name with 2019 Suzuki Katana, following the same design philosophy and carrying modern features. It gets a 999cc engine with 150PS on tap and retro styling to resemble the 1981 Katana.
That’s it for the bike, The Suzuki Swift Sport Katana Edition is a great looking hatchback. Suzuki is emphasizing more on the Katana name with promoting the bike as well as the Swift with the limited edition. Suzuki will only produce 30 of these vehicles with two color options – Premium Silver Metallic and Super Black Pearl, same as you get in the bike.
Coming to the design it gets two paint schemes. In grey color, it gets red accents around the grille which gives it a more sporty look. We also see a black racing strip running along with the hood of the car, sides also get graphics with a Katana sign. Further complementing the side profile are the 17-inch alloy wheels from OZ, with an option to upgrade to 18-inch ones. The suspensions are also lowered and are adjustable, which will result in better sharpness and handling.
The interiors too get hints of red and custom seat covers. Seat covers are embroidered with a serial number of the car from the limited 30 units. The flat bottomed steering wheel gets “Katana” written on it and red stitching. Other features remain the same as the regular Swift Sport. The exhaust note has also been improved for the more sportier sound.
The engine unit is the 1.4 Boosterjet engine which makes 140 bhp of power and 230 Nm of maximum torque, it comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. Combined that with the light weight of the swift, the performance is amazing. It gets to a ton in 7.6 seconds and has a top speed of over 200kmph.
As of now, the Suzuki Swift Sport Katana Edition is only available in the Netherlands, with s.a price tag of 28,999 euros, which is almost Rs 22.5 Lakhs. There are close to none chances of Katana edition making to India, as we are still waiting for Swift Sport, and according to the Suzuki India, it’s not going to happen anytime soon.
