The waiting period for all-new Suzuki Jimny has extended up to 1.5 years in Japan. The new model will also hit the Indian market. However, the launch is getting delayed every month. It seems that the new-gen version of Maruti Gypsy is still far. The carmaker has a record in the sales of Jimny in the international market. The stylish design and attractive features made it famous, globally.
However, it is quite depressing to know that the waiting period has increased shockingly. In Japan, the new Jimny was unwrapped in July last year. The company sells Mk4 Jimny as Kie (Jimny) and a top-specs trim (Jimny Sierra), in the global market. The model is produced from Kosai mill in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan.
The production was affected due to current coronavirus pandemic. The off-roaders Jimny is still struggling at the production level. The company might begin production after the situation. The Jimny Sierra 3-door version was revealed at the 2020 Auto Expo, which attracted many fans with its sports SUV appearance. The vehicle looks extremely pleasing in its modified Maruti Gypsy design.
Earlier reports suggested that the company will commence the production of Sierra in May 2020 at the Hansalpur plant in Gujarat, India. It was likely to come in 3-door and a 5-door version (YWD). It was also said to hit the Indian automotive market in November 2020. Although, according to the current situation, Jimny is still far from India.
It’s been two years since the company launched Suzuki Jimny in Japan. The fans are eagerly waiting for its selling. At the launch event, the company announced an yearly sales target of 15,000 units for the standard version and 1,200 units for the Sierra, in the domestic market.
The India-spec Suzuki Jimny will be powered by a K15B 1.5-litre gasoline engine, which is capable of delivering 102 PS of max power at 6,000rpm and 130 Nm of peak torque at 4,000rpm. The engine will be combined with a 5-speed MT or a 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox transmission. It will be equipped with high-level safety features like ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, and many more.
Taking about the interior features, the car will get a touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and steering-mounted controls. It will also feature ALLGRIP PRO part-time 4WD system. The Indian-specs version will rival against the likes of upcoming 2020 Mahindra Thar, which will soon launch in the country.
