The all-new Skoda Octavia was officially unwrapped last month which grabbed enough attention all thanks to its new design and features. This is the fourth generation Octavia which is equipped with latest features and a trendy exterior concept. The new-gen model is scheduled to be launched in the second half of 2020.
Recently, the upcoming Octavia received 5-stars ratings by Euro NCAP. Hence, the company proved that the new model excels in safety. The safety crash test body has utilised the Octavia Combi 1.5 TSI “Ambition” in its estate or wagon body model. It is an LHD version of the car with an overall weight of 1313 kg. The car gets 92% for adult occupant safety, 88% for child occupant, 73% for pedestrian safety and 79% for safety assist functions.
The all-new Octavia has undergone different tests by the Euro NCAP including front offset deformable barrier test, frontal full-width collision, lateral impact and whiplash rear impact test. All the variants of Octavia were regarded as safe except the PHEV. The interior was considered ‘stable’ in the frontal offset crash test. In the side barrier impact test, the safety of all significant body sections was assumed ‘good’. Hence, the model achieved sufficient points.
In terms of child occupant protection test, the model was given 43.2 points out of 49 points, 35.5 points out of 48 for pedestrian safety and 10.3 points out of 13 for its safety assist systems. The scores for each driver and front passenger were given in the series of ‘Good’ and ‘Marginal’. So, it didn’t get ‘Weak’ or ‘Poor’ score during the overall tests.
The new-gen Octavia has tons of safety features including Collision-Avoidance Assist, Turn Assist and Exit Warning, front airbags, side head, chest, pelvis airbags, AEB Pedestrian, ISOFIX child seat mounts, collision avoidance system, AEB Cyclist, lane assist, belt pre-tensioner, AEB City, AEB Inter-Urban, Seat Belt Reminder, Speed Assistance and much more. The car is 4,690 mm in length, 1,829 mm in width and 1,470 mm in height.
The new-gen Skoda Octavia is powered by a 1.5 TSI engine which can make 150PS max power and 250Nm of torque. It will come in different engine option which will include PS 1.0-litre three-cylinder, 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engines and 2.0-litre TSI engine. The company will also offer a plug-in hybrid variant along with a 1.4-litre engine. In India, the carmaker will bring the model via CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route.
