Skoda: Volkswagen has finally taken a major step in the Indian automotive market. They have officially confirmed that the company has selected Skoda for the formation of expected Volkswagen Group cars for the country. This news was just a rumor until September last year, but now it is officially announced as the project has received permission from the group’s global board of management and supervision. The automotive manufacturer has previously announced the ‘India 2.0’ project which is now handed over to Skoda.
The project incorporates progress production of the sub-compact MQB- A0 platform with a target on the India-model MQB A0-IN. This leading Skoda model is expected to be released by the year 2020. The future model will be developed in an all-new platform with advanced technologies and improvements. It will be developed with high-level safety features and will incorporate all the requirements of the upcoming vehicle norms which are announced by Indian Government to control pollution. The latest norms will come into effect next year.
The latest Skoda SUV that will acquire the Hyundai Creta in India. As per latest reports, the all-new model will come in an attractively sporty design inspired by the Vision X SUV concept which was globally debuted, however, the features and dimensions be considered, keeping in mind the Indian model price. The future SUV is also said to receive traditional Volkswagen touch up. The new two models will be designed with some identical body panels to maintain the price margin, although, the high-cost variant will get some extra innovative specs in the Indian auto-market.
Skoda Auto CEO, Bernhard Maier claimed, “We are firmly convinced that – after one and a half years of intensive work – together with Volkswagen we now have a suitable approach to bring the right vehicles into the Indian market at the right time. We will present the first model built on the new MQB-A0-IN platform as early as 2020. I am confident that we can make the ‘INDIA 2.0’ project a success.”
Skoda has also begun the process to take over Volkswagon’s Chakan plant. It will be massively installed with new devices and an addition of the latest production line to produce cars developed on the fresh MQB-A0-IN platform. The new MQB-A0-IN production line will be developed in correspondence to the current line which will be used to assemble cars formed on the previous PQ25 platform, including the Skoda Rapid, Volkswagen Vento, Ameo, and Polo.
