The monocoque sub 4 meter SUV of Mahindra codenamed as the S201 is soon to make an appearance in the Indian Automobile scene. The four wheeler resembles the Ssangyong Tivoli SUV, only just a little smaller than it. Recently the car has been spotted outside a Mahindra dealership in Bangalore, being unloaded from a flat bed, uncamouflaged. The vehicle which was spotted is most probably a test mule and not a production model, as it comes without a badge on the hatching lid. But the good news is that the rear end and side designing of the car can be figured out. The styling cues might have been taken from the KUV100.
Dual climate control, disc brakes on all the four wheels, projector headlamps, LED tail lamps, sunroof and a new 7-inch infotainment system and multiple airbags are some of the installments of the S201.The hatchback like SUV will draw its power from a turbocharged 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engines. It is capable of producing 125 bhp when runs on a petrol engine, but decreases to a 110 bhp when it is the diesel engine we are talking about. The car will have manual gearboxes as standard offering by the company with both the engines. But Front wheel drive layout and automatic gearbox will also be on the list as the cars of this segment in India mostly feature an automatic transmission system.
The S201 is most likely to be debuting during the months of October-November of the running year. A seven seater version of the same will also be making an appearance in the following year. Maruti Brezza which has made quite a buzz already. So its going to be a tough time for the S201 compact SUV. The other rival of the car is Tata Nexon.
