The Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500X now gets a much needed ABS upgrade. This upgrade also comes at a premium of INR 14,000 over the standard variant, making the motorcycle now cost INR 2.13 lakh (ex-showroom). The move comes in light of ABS being made mandatory for motorcycles above 125cc by Apri 2019. Royal Enfield aims to equip all their models with ABS possibly by the end of this year.
Every other aspect of the bike remains the same except for the ABS. And like other ABS models in Royal Enfield’s stables, the Thunderbird 500X also gets a dual channel ABS system. This makes the Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500X one of the most expensive single cylinder motorcycle on offer from the company.
The Thunderbird 500X runs on a 499cc, single cylinder, air cooled engine. It produces a maximum power of 27.3hp at 5,250 RPM and a maximum torque of 41.3Nm at 4,000 RPM. The motor is paired with a 5-speed gearbox. The suspension is handled by telescopic forks up front and twin shock absorbers at the rear.
The Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500X is like a factory custom of the standard Thunderbird 500. It features a few cosmetic changes like bright paint colors and also body colored wheel stripes. It also gets a few physical changes like a flatter handlebar and a new nine-spoke alloy wheel with tubeless tires.
Other models in Royal Enfield’s line up like the Classic Signals 350, Classic 500, Thunderbird 350X and also the Himalayan have already received the mandatory safety upgrade.
