Royal Enfield, the Chennai based bikemaker plans to introduce a more powerful version of the Himalayan adventurer bike. The Royal Enfield Himalayan 650 is likely to arrive in the Indian markets in either late 2019 or early 2020. Royal Enfield had launched the 650 twins – Interceptor 650 and Continental GT in November 2018 and the Interceptor 650 bagged the highest accolade in the Indian Motorcycle industry being 2018 Indian Motorcycle Of the Year [IMOTY]. The huge success of the 650 twins has made the bikemaker manufacture the Himalayan adventure tourer 650.
The Royal Enfield Himalayan 650 will be powered by the same engine powering the 650 cruiser twins. Therefore, the Himalayan adventure bike will get a 648 cc parallel twin air/ oil cooled engine, which churns out a power of 47 bhp and produces a peak torque of 52 Nm. A six speed gear box comes paired to the engine. This engine offers almost double than what the current engine offers. The Royal Enfield Himalayan currently on sale is powered by an air cooled single cynlinder 411 cc engine, which delivers a power of 24.5 bhp and produces a peak torque of 32 Nm. The engine gets matted to a five speed gearbox.
Besides the more powerful engine, the Royal Enfield Himalayan 650 will come loaded with new features and updates including the chassis and other mechanical bits. The chassis of the adventure bike will now be redesigned in order to support the larger engine. The suspension setup on the bike will also be modified but it will get the similar long travel suspension at both front and rear end. The braking duties on the Royal Enfield Himalayan 650 will be handled by larger discs as seen on the Royal Enfield 650 cruiser twins. The switchable ABS along with equally impressive build quality similar to the larger 650 twins and better ground clearance will also be offered on the Himalayan 650 adventure tourer. The adventure bike will recieve a small bump in size as well. When launched, the Royal Enfield Himalayan 650 is likely to be priced around Rs 3 lakhs [ex showroom], thereby making it the most affordable middle weight adventure tourer on sale in the country.
