Royal Enfield has started with the deliveries of the Royal Enfield Classic 500 with dual channel ABS in India. The Desert Storm and the Stealth Black are the two motorcycles which are equipped with this life saving safety feature of dual channel ABS while the rest of the Royal Enfield Classic 500 range is yet to get equipped with the ABS. By the end of this year Royal Enfield will equip its entire range of motorcycle sold in India with ABS as standard in order to meet with the safety norms implemented by the Government to enforce from April 2019 for all two wheelers with displacement over 125 cc.
The addition of the dual channel ABS feature has raised the price of the Royal Enfield Classic 500. The prices of the Desert Storm and the Stealth Black have increased by Rs 23,000. Therefore the ex showroom [ Delhi ] price of both these motorcycles – the Desert Storm and the Stealth Black are Rs 2.1 lakh. There are no other mechanical changes in the Royal Enfield Classic 500 apart from the addition of ABS. The Royal Enfield Classic 500 Desert Storm and the Stealth Black only differ in terms of colour scheme. The Royal Enfield Classic 500 Dessert Storm sports a sand brown finish on the body where as the Classic 500 Stealth Black features a black paint which is also carried over the gearbox, engine and even the wheels.
Both the Enfield Classic 500 Dessert Storm ABS and the Classic 500 Stealth Black ABS will continue to extract power from an air cooled, long stroke single cylinder four stroke engine 499 cc engine that uses hydraulic tappets. This engine churns out a power of 27.2 Bhp and delivers a peak torque of 41.3 Nm. The engine gets paired to a speed manual gearbox as standard and so is fuel injection. The Royal Enfield Classic 500 ABS gets 35 mm telescopic forks at the front and gas charged shock absorbers at the rear.
The dual channel ABS will handle the braking system of the bike both at the front and at the rear. The Royal Enfield Classic 500 ABS comes equipped with same Bosh sourced ABS unit seen on the Classic 350 Signals. The deliveries of the Royal Enfield Classic 500 ABS have begun across the company’s dealerships in India. The addition of the dual channel ABS has made the Enfield Classic 500 a safer one for long rides.
