Finally, the most awaited launch from Royal Enfield is gonna take place tomorrow. Royal Enfield will be launching both Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 tomorrow in India.
After launching the bikes in California Royal Enfield has finally decided to Launch the 650 Twins in India. On the other hand, the pricing for the bikes has been announced for the US market The Interceptor 650 starts at $5799 (Rs 4.20 lakh), and the Continental GT 650 starts at $5999 (Rs 4.35 lakh). So, it will be interesting to see how competitively will Royal Enfield price them in India.
The Royal Enfield 650 Twins are built on a completely new platform powered by parallel-twin 648cc air-cooled, SOHC, fuel-injected engine which makes 47 bhp at 7250rpm and 52 Nm of peak torque at 4000 rpm and is mated to a 6-speed gearbox with slipper clutch assist. Torque is available from as low as 2500rpm to provide better accessible torque. Claimed mileage of 25.5kmpl as per World Motorcycle Test Cycle (WMTC) with a 13.7-litre and smaller 12.5-litres for continental GT should result in a decent range.
Braking performance is handled by a 320mm single disc up front and a 240mm disc at the rear with standard dual-channel ABS. On the front bike gets conventional telescopic fork and rear gets gas charged twin shocks.
The Interceptor 650 clearly looks like a retro roadster with its wide braced handlebars and upright riding position. An 18-inch classic spoked wheel up front, 130 section rear tyre and lower seat height of 804mm. While the Continental GT looks definitely like a Cafe Racer and resembles the old Continental GT 535. Lowered clip-on handlebars, rear-set footpegs and single seat give it a distinctive retro cafe racer charm.
Royal Enfield is entering the higher capacity bike segment with their 650 Duo. The pricing and after sales support will decide how well the customer reacts to 650 Twins.
