The MPV segment has been lonely with the upgrade of Toyota Innova to a more premium pricing. While the Renault Lodgy has failed to gain it’s charm. The only player Maruti Suzuki Ertiga was left and needed a freshness. So on, Maruti Suzuki launched the facelift of the Ertiga. But how good is the Ertiga ?
The people mover Ertiga was not just loved by the private buyers but also the fleet owners. And now the all new Ertiga has become plusher than before with added practicality in it’s 2018 facelift. Not just that the design has changes, the dimensions of the new ertiga has changed too. Ertiga has justified to become an urban car for your everyday life with not just in the city traffic but also in the unplanned weekend rides. Why we call it the the new urban car ? You would agree here..
Spacious than before ?
The dimensions, as far as concerned, are 4395 mm in length (which is 99 mm longer than the previous one), 1735 mm in width and 1690 mm in height (5 mm taller than the first gen model). The wheelbase is 2740 mm with a 185 mm ground clearance. The boot space is a generous 209 liters (increased by 50%) that can be expanded upto 803 liters when the third row is folded, followed by an equally decent fuel tank capacity of 45 liters.
Having said that, the increased size has helped gaining more airy cabin inside. The second row now gets increased leg room than before. People sitting behind you in the 3rd row won’t feel that bad too. the space has generously increased. The front row seats are better cushioned and sculpted. While the rear seats have now better thigh support but then could have been more better. The 3rd row would surprise you with that added space for your knees. Undoubtedly, the new ertiga has really added space all around with the urban design at both exteriors and interiors.
Move in Style !
The styling and designing of the new Ertiga is much bolder than its predecessor. The bold chrome grille, floating roof design, projector headlamps, with a classy look 3D LED taillamps and bold character lines gives the car a unique and elegant look and makes it stand out. Importantly, the car gets projector Headlamps as standard across variants. What we didn’t like about it is the 15 incher wheel which looks bit smaller for the car of this size. But does that really matters ? No, to us as you have lot more to explore other reasons to move in style together !

The interior welcomes with all hands wide open. The new designed interiors are more premium and gets more interesting. A new design language and the result is a distinguished premiumness feel. However, the lower beige color does feel bit overdose. The car has beige color carpets and they tend get smuged more often. We wish the interiors could have some other options for the lower half of the dash.
The car gets smartplay infotainment system while the lower models get a basic audio system will all basic and descriptive functions. The new MID system borrowed from the Baleno shows ample is information like power and torque delivery, door opening, fuel consumption, trip, clock and many others. Well, it not every car is perfect and thus Ertiga too has few features missing like auto headlamps, rain sensing wipers and auto dimming IRVM.
The Drive !
The diesel variant of the Ertiga 2018 runs on the same 1248 cc mill, giving a power output of 88.5 hp at 4000 rpm and a torque of 200 Nm at 1750 rpm mated to a 6 speed manual transmission system. The Petrol 1.5 liter K15B, VVT, 4 cylinder engine makes healthy 108.26 hp at 6000 rpm and 138 Nm at 4400 rpm.
The Car we drove was an automatic and thanks to maruti for offering a torque converter and not an AMT. The power delivery is linear across rev ranges. The automatic transmission is nicely setup and you would barely feel any gear changes. The easy start stop at the brake pedal is really gasoline saver. Sadly, you don’t get the automatic in the top of the line variants while the diesel doesn’t get any automatic option.
The suspension is soft and you barely tend to feel the Indian potholes. However, the soft suspension doesn’t give the cornering confidence. The braking is just perfect and could have been more responsive.
The 2018 Ertiga is not just a facelift update but i would rather say more of a new car for the indian buyers. The design is eye-catcher, you can’t deny the fact and the more practicality makes the Ertiga a perfect mover but in style.. The all new Ertiga is an MPV with features and comfort of a sedan. Additionally, you would barely feel the huge size of the car while driving.
The Ertiga is priced from 7.4 lakhs and goes upto 10.90 lakhs. If you are looking for a family mover with comfort of a sedan this is the car for you.
