After trying their hands at the MUV segment with the Lodgy, Renault has been preparing another vehicle to compete in the compact MUV segment. While Renault Lodgy had the potential but it never really could put the charts on fire. This time Renault is more seems more prepared with a better understanding of the market.
A few days back Renault launched the official website of the MUV and revealed its name ‘Renault Triber’. Some spy shots from Auto Punditz surfaced online providing a better idea of the vehicle exterior. Though the vehicle was heavily camouflaged it had the Triber branding on both the sides. Due to the heavy camouflage, it’s hard to figure out the exterior, but it gets a rear windshield wiper, roof rails, and a spoiler.
The interior is not visible in these spy images, however, some previous spy shots hint that the MUV will get a two-tone black and beige interiors. At the center of the console will be a large touchscreen display, with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support.
Renault has modified the CMF-A platform, which is the same platform used in Kwid and the Datsun Go. Due to the upcoming safety norms the Triber will be much more safer. ABS, EBD, airbags, speed alert feature, and rear parking sensor could be offered as standard.
We still don’t have any information about the powertrain. Renault will offer the Triber with both petrol and diesel options. Renault can plonk in the same 1.0-litre petrol motor as found in the Kwid, it can be slightly tuned to produce more power and torque. Or Renault can also use the Duster’s motor. Renault Triber should get both manual and automatic gearbox.
Renault Triber is expected to launch in India this year with a expected price of Rs 5.5 lakhs (ex-showroom).There’s no direct rival to Renault Triber. When launched it will be a great offering for people who need to ferry more than 5 people on a budget.
