Renault showcased the electric version of the Renault Kwid in 2018 Paris Motor Show. And after a few camouflaged pictures of test mules, patent images showing the design for the EV has been leaked online.

The car is based on the Renault K-ZE concept. The images give a clear idea from what the small EV will look like exterior wise. As you can see there are some pretty familiar changes for an EV. It features a newly revised grille, as the radiator is not required for an electric vehicle. A sleeker grille does the job. The air intakes would be non-functional and are just there for design purposes.

The rear of the car gets new led tail lamps which look quite modern. The rear bumper and the front bumper is also redesigned. Renault will give Kwid EV special alloy wheels than the regular version. It will also come equipped with 4 disc brakes.

Coming to the powertrain of the Kwid EV, which is being jointly developed with Renault’s Chinese partner Dongfeng under the eGT New Energy Automotive joint venture that was formed in 2018. We don’t have the technical details yet, but the concept version of the Renault Kwid EV has a range of 250km under the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC).

The car will also feature a dual charging system that can be charged via commercial electric chargers as well as regular plug points in your home for ease of use.

Renault has the plan to introduce the Kwid EV in India very soon. Renault has confirmed that it will launch four new models in India by 2022. The market premiere of the Renault Kwid EV will happen in China. As the vehicle will be produced in Dongfeng’s production facility in Shiyan in central China.

When launched it will be one of the well priced electric vehicles in India. As Renault has great success with the Kwid we hope that the EV will also turn out to be a good hit. Renault will price the Kwid EV competitively to grow the segment of small EV vehicles.
