Since its launch in India in 2015, Renault’s Kwid has crossed the 3 Lakh sales milestone. Along with the Duster, the Kwid is the car that helped to cement Renault among Indian car buyers. The car is available at a starting price of INR 2.72 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).
According to Renault, 98% of the Kwid’s parts are localised, which helps a great deal in keeping the prices competitive. There are two engine options(both petrol) available with the Kwid. There is a 3-cylinder, DOHC, 4-valve, 0.8 litre petrol engine that makes 54 bhp and 72 Nm. Also available is a 3-cylinder, DOHC, 4-valve, 1.0 litre petrol mill that produces 67 bhp and 91 Nm.

5-Speed manual transmission is available as standard, while the 1.0 Litre engine also has a 5-Speed AMT box. Safety package in the Kwid includes Driver airbag, Reverse parking camera, ABS+EBD, Driver and Passenger seat belt reminder, speed alert. Other features in the Kwid include 7-inch touchscreen Media & NAV system, digital instrument cluster, one-touch lane change indicator, speed dependent volume control and seat belt pre-tensioners with load limiters. The boot space is a decent 300 litres that is just about enough to pack for a weekend. The fuel capacity is 28 litres.
Renault is working on the Kwid facelift. The facelift is expected to be launched next year. Other exciting cars lined up for launch are the Duster facelift and the Renault Triber MPV. The Duster facelift is expected to receive a thorough interior and exterior makeover and safety upgrades. The new BS6 compliant engines are also expected to be a feature of the new Duster.
Renault increased the prices of the Kwid by upto 3% from April 2019. The car rivals the likes of Maruti Alto 800 and Datsun Redi-Go.
