Renault has finally launched the much awaited 1.3L Turbo petrol powered Duster. Due to the BS6 norms they had to discontinue the 1.5L Diesel mill, and Duster was in urgent need of a more powerful engine. Renault took the term powerful too seriously and launched it with a 156Ps turbo petrol engine, which is the most powerful in the segment. Let’s talk about all the figures and new changes in Duster 1.3L.
First of all Renault has made sure that this engine is made accessible and has offered it right up from the base variant of the range i.e RXE. So in the segment this is not only the most powerful engine but much cheaper than Hyundai-Kia 1.4L turbo. It even undercuts the Nissan Kicks in price with same engine. Wondering what is the hype around the engine? Power figures. The 1.3L Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) gets Dual Variable Valve Timing (VVT) and makes around 156PS at 5500 rpm and 254 Nm at 1600 rpm. It comes mated to either a 6-speed manual or a CVT.
Together with enabling maximum power in the segment, DUSTER offers superior fuel efficiency of 16.5 kmpl in manual transmission and 16.42 kmpl in the CVT version with 7-speed manual mode. Renault is also continuing the 1.5L NA petrol which makes 106ps and 142Nm of torque it comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Sadly Renault has dropped the AWD version of the Duster.
Anything new except the engine? Well mostly the Duster remains the same with few enhancements like 17-inch Forza Diamond Cut alloy wheels, hill-start assist, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), remote precooling and new smart/stop system. Exterior also get red accents highlights on the grille, fog lamp housing as well as roof rails. Everything else remains the same including 205 mm ground clearance, 7 inch touchscreen, cruise control, cooled glove box and LED DRLs. Safety features includes ABS, EBD, 2 airbags, ESP, reverse parking camera and hill start-assist.
The Renault Duster makes a good contender again in the segment with a competitive engine. While it may lack on some features compared to Kia Seltos or Hyundai Creta, but it has more power and comfort, as well is priced cheaper. So if you are in the segment for a 5-seater SUV you should consider the Duster 1.3L. Watch the video below find out how the Duster 1.3L looks.
