Turbo petrol engines are becoming the new norm, and they do deserve all the popularity they are getting. Smaller engines = weight savings, they are fuel-efficient too and the most important the feeling of power when the turbo kicks in. We have the 1.0L turbo engines and 1.4L engines from Hyundai.
Now Renault has again teased its 1.3L Turbocharged petrol. What is special you may ask? Well to give this engine a perspective, Hyundai-Kia’s 1.4L engine makes 138bhp and 242Nm of torque. And this smaller offering from Renault is capable of putting out 156hp and 254Nm of torque. This engine is also shared in the Nissan Kicks and soon will come to Renault Duster.
Renault claims that this is the most powerful engine in this segment, and they stand right. While the same engine in Nissan Kicks was missing out on manual transmission. Renault Duster will come with a 6-speed manual transmission as well as their X-Tronic CVT with manual mode. It’s a Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engine with dual VVT.
Renault will also keep the 1.5L NA petrol in lower variants. As for the new 1.3L, Renault also claims it to be a globally successful engine. Renault Duster comes with decent features such as projector headlamps setup along with LEDs, diamond-cut alloy wheels, an LED taillight, dual front airbags and 205mm ground clearance.
Duster already has a very competent chassis, and ride comfort which customers kept talking about, paired that with this quick engine, it should again get some sales back.
