Nissan India might halt the production of the mid-spec Terrano SUV and the reason is low sales. The company had launched the Renault Duster which is highly based on the Terrano. So, after the introduction of Duster, the Terrano has reported an unbelievable sales drop. The company has reported that they are producing only 122 units monthly of the Terrano range.
According to the latest reports, the company’s showroom owners have claimed that they have not sold any new Terrano in the recent month. Although, we are waiting for the official announcement of the Nissan India whether they have stopped the production. The model halt will not affect the customers as Duster is a more high-spec model than Terrano. In July and August, this year, the company sold only 65 and 71 units, respectively. On yearly basis, the company marketed just 585 units of the Terrano.
Some reports also confirm that Nissan has suspended delivery of Terrano’s units from its Orgadam, Chennai factory, probably because Nissan could have discontinued production of the model. The 2013 Nissan Terrano was priced between Rs. 10 lakhs – Rs. 14 lakhs. The car was a popular range of the company soon after the launch. The dealerships recording 6,000 bookings per month, soon after release. To increase sales, the company also introduced the facelift model which was offered in a Sandstone Brown shade option. However, these updates were not appreciated by the enthusiasts compared to its rivals.
The Nissan Terrano is based on the Renault Duster. The car is offered in both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol variant runs on a 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder engine unit that generates 103 BHP at 5,750 rpm and 148 Nm of torque at 3,750 rpm. The diesel engine is a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder unit which further comes in two power option: 84 BHP / 200 Nm and 109 BHP / 245 Nm. The engine is available with 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual, and a 6-speed automatic transmission options.
Terrano SUV might be replaced with its forthcoming Kicks SUV. The Kicks will be developed in a B0 platform based on Terrano. It will be a low priced variant integrated with latest features. The upcoming car will get the identical engine of the Renault Duster. It will be available in two motor variants: 1.5-litre K9K diesel (6-speed AMT or MT option) and a 1.5-litre H4K petrol motor (5-speed MT or a CVT transmission).
