The newest talk of the town are the bikes launched by Yamaha and Kawasaki , namely the R3 and the Ninja 400. The Yamaha YZF R3 has a starting price of INR 3.48 lakhs and the Kawasaki Ninja 400 is priced at INR 4.98 lakhs. The Yamaha bike is available in racing blue and magma black colors whereas the Kawasaki wonder is available only in green and black (we like the green one). The Yamaha R3 runs on a 321 cc twin cylinder engine whereas the Kawasaki 400 is powered by a 399 cc twin cylinder engine mated with a 6 speed gearbox. The R3 produces 42 HP at 10750 rpm and 29.6 Nm at 9000 rpm. The Ninja gives it a tough competition with 45 HP at 10000 rpm and 387 Nm at 8000. Both bikes weigh around 173 Kgs.
The R3 has a dimension of 2090 mm *720 mm*1135 mm and the Kawasaki beast measures 2020 mm*710 mm*1120 mm ,which is a bit compact.The Seat height and the wheelbase of the both the bikes is 785 mm and 1370 mm respectively. The measurement of the fuel tank is also equal, 14 L. The Yamaha R3 has a dual channel ABS and Metzeler tyres, which is included in its selling price. The fuel efficiency range of the Yamaha bike is 308 km.
Some additional information about the bikes are, the Yamaha R3 features a digital tachometer whereas the Ninja 400 features a analogue one. The stand alarm is absent in the R3 but present in the Kawasaki bike. The bore / stroke of the R3 is 68 mm* 44.1 mm and the compression ratio is 11.2:1. The bike has an estimated top speed of 180 kmph. The frame of the bike is steel diamond. The bore/ stroke of the ninja 400 is 70 mm* 51.8 mm followed by a compression ratio of 11.5:1. This bike too has a frame of steel diamond but with a truss structure. The claimed range of the bike is 340 km.
The Kawasaki Ninja 400 was first unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show 2017. The bike has a EURO IV compliance. The Yamaha YZF R3 has been released in India since 2015 and it has been changing its versions and giving updates since then. The 2018 version had been launched at the Auto Expo 2018, the 2016-2017 versions has been discontinued for the same.
The Yamaha R3 looks more practical and stable under the segment with nicely priced on the other hand Kawasaki has extra horse power and will surely give you goose bump and road presence while you drive and this comes with an extra pay of INR 1,21,000 over the YZF R3 just for 3 more BHPs. Looking at the paper figures Yamaha YZF-R3 is more value for money option with better service network. Although the Ninja 400 has everything a mid range sports bike require and if you don’t worry about the pocket you can surely opt for Ninja 400.
