The new Toyota Corolla Altis will come powered to the 1.5 litre K series petrol engine. This 1.5 litre K series petrol engine is being developed by Suzuki and it will make its debut in the 2018 Maruti Suzuki Ciaz facelift. According to the agreement signed by both the automakers – the Toyota Motor Corporation and the Suzuki Motor Corporation, both company will supply eachother their hybrid and other vehicles and will also share their technologies between themselves.
The engine was developed by the Suzuki in Japan. The new engine will be built in India by Maruti Suzuki. This engine will first appear on the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz facelift and the new Toyota Corolla Altis will use the same engine. Besides the new Toyota Corolla Altis the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Ertiga MPV, Maruti Suzuki S-Cross and the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza compact SUV will also draw power from the 1.5 litre K series petrol engine. The first generation Maruti Suzuki Ciaz as well ws the Ertiga MPV is powered to the 1.4 litre K14B engine. This 1.4 litre engine churns out a power of 94 bhp and produces a peak torque of 130 Nm.
The new 2018 Maruti Suzuki Ciaz facelift powered to the 1.5 litre K series engine will be arriving later on this month, probably 20th August, 2018. But the 1.3 litre diesel engine variant of the facelifted Ciaz will not notice any change. Later on this engine will be shared to the Toyota Motor Corporation and will be powered in the upcoming sedan from Toyota – the new Toyota Corolla Altis. The upcoming 1.5 litre engine will churn out a maximum power of 102.5 bhp and a peak torque of 138 Nm. The engine has claimed a fuel efficiency of over 21 kmpl. The engine will feature first in class Smart Hybrid Vehicle System [SHVS]. This 1.5 litre engine has become a necessity for the Maruti Suzuki as at present it does not have any engine larger than the old 1.4 litre K14B VVT petrol unit. Therefore a bump in the power will be noticed with the introduction of the new 1.5 litre petrol engine.
The new Toyota Corolla Altis is expected to launch around 2020. It is yet unknown whether the new Toyota Corolla Altis will feature any hybrid technology or not. The current Corolla is powered to a 1.8 litre petrol engine producing a power of 140 PS and 173 Nm torque. While the diesel engine variant is powered to 1.3 litre engine producing 88 PS power and 205 Nm torque.
