Land Rover has recently commenced testing on roads in cover before launch, expected in 2020. Commenting indirectly on the new version, the company said, “Jaguar Land Rover runs a wide range of engineering and technology development programmes. We are unable to comment on the specific nature of these programmes. However, we can confirm that the Defender programme is progressing well and has reached an exciting stage of its development”.
In the 2018 Paris Motor Show, Jaguar Land Rover’s chief marketing officer Felix Bräutigam said, “It’s exciting to now start getting one step closer to officially announcing the rebirth of an icon.” For now, the company has not stated much about the new version, but we expect the off-roader to launch by 2020. As in a statement, Bräutigam said that they are will make sure that the really excited enthusiasts get their cars by 2020. He also said, “We will stage it properly; the train has left the station but we are not rushing to a specific date”.
According to the latest spy images, the vehicle has been completely transformed in terms of exterior designing. It is based on the vintage Land Rover Defender configuration and the design inspired by the recent Land Rover and Range Rover concepts in the off-road range. It will be really exciting to see the combination of retro and modern look in the new Defender. With near camouflage, the vehicle was seen with a flat bonnet which is disguised by a dense cladding. It is equipped with narrow grille highlighting new headlights.
Beside new updates, it has also got some traditional elements like Land Rover vents. The windows are moved toward the backward direction which offers a boxy joint formation that hints substantial door cladding. It is equipped with a new square tail lamp setup at the rear section. It is rumored that the new Defender will be available in two-wheel size variants. So, the new updated version of Defender will be definitely a serious off-roader and will be different from the ongoing model.
