On Wednesday, at the Ford’s Flat Rock Assembly Plant in Michigan the 10 millionth model of the Ford Mustang further reassuring its followers about its position on the list of best selling sports car of all times. This car has been rolling its wheel since last 54 years. It is the sixth vehicle of Ford to have reached the 10 millionth vehicle milestone.
Wimbledon White is the colour of the GT 2019, just like the first Mustang which was manufactured back in March 1964 in Canada. The car had the serial number 001.It was purchased by an airline pilot named Stanley Tucker, who later gave it back to the company in return of the 1 millionth Mustang in March 1966. The previous millions were produced at various locations before this. The Flat Rock Assembly plant was made long after and after that 1.6 millions vehicles were manufactured there.
The 10 millionth model is not going to be on sales, but rather would indulge in promotional duties and soon will be put up for auction after it finds its place in some museum. The 11 th million model might be a hybrid one or an autonomous commercial vehicle. There can also be an all-electric SUV inspired by the Mustang. All these could roll out from the Flat Rock Assembly plant in future.
“The Mustang is the best-selling sports coupe in Germany, as well as in the United States,” Ford CEO Jim Hackett addressed the crowd assembled at Ford headquarters.
“I can think of no other American car that captures the love affair with the automobile that Americans have had,” automotive historian John Heitmann of the University of Dayton made the remark. Also, Bob Merlis, automotive historian who had been a teenager when the automobile made an appearance at New York World’s Fair launch in Spring of 1964, said, “It was almost like pandemonium. People were so excited about this car. It was sort of a counterpoint to the very square, staid station wagon ethos that Americans grew up with in suburbia. It represented some kind of a freedom vehicle. It embodied that.”
