MG Motors has taken the wraps off the Gloster, their Fortuner and the Endeavour rival at the Auto Expo 2020. Massive and menacing would be an understatement for the Gloster. It is based on the Maxus D90 SUV that is available in the international markets. The SUV is built on a ladder frame chassis and not a monocoque. At 5005mm, it is longer than the Fortuner by 210mm and 100mm longer than the Endeavour.

What to expect from the Gloster?

MG has not revealed the interiors for India yet, but we expect it to have touchscreen infotainment system, ventilated seats, connected car features and wireless charging as well among others. On the outside, it has a massive octagonal grille that is finished in matte silver. There is also there chrome-treated horizontal slats. The MG logo is finished in chrome. The headlamps are a dual LED projector units with LED DRLs at the top that double as turn indicators.

The fog lamps on the Gloster are reflective type ones and gets C shaped surrounds. The ORVMs are also huge, which is a must for such a massive SUV and they house the turn indicators as well. The Gloster runs on 19-inch alloy wheels that are shod with a 255mm section tyres, again massive. The tail lamps have LED elements in them and the tailgate has a the Gloster Logo slapped across it. A nice matte silver strip runs along the window line and rises along the D-pillar and flows into the roof rack, cut slightly in the middle by the body panel.

In the international markets, the Gloster gets a 2 litre turbo petrol engine mated to either a 6-Speed Manual or a 6-Speed Automatic gearbox. This engine develops about 224PS of power and 360Nm of torque. We expect the same to make it to the Indian shores. Speculations are rife that the Gloster could also get a 2 Litre, biturbo engine, mated to an 8-Speed automatic gearbox. The diesel develops about 215 PS of power and 480Nm of torque.

In terms of safety equipment, the D90 internationally gets 8 airbags, ABS, TCS, EBD and other fancy electronic nannies. We expect the same features to be carried over to the Indian market as well. In terms of pricing, it is expected to be priced starting from about 25 lakhs and is expected to undercut its rivals.
