Morris Garage (MG) is all set to launch the new MG Hector in India very soon. This is indicated by the spy shots of a completely undisguised Hector. The new images show a different wheel design and also some exterior changes.

In the images, we can see the Hector in two shades – metallic grey and a purple shade. The latter appears to be the higher end variant as it also gets dual tone alloys. Also, the alloys look like they are 16 inches and not 17. The image also shows the car with a clear view of the chrome around the grille, LED DRLs and also the headlights. It looks like even the lower end variants may get projector headlamps. But it also looks like the sunroof is missing from both the test mules. The angle of the images does not give a clear view of the roof and it could still be there. We will have to wait for the official launch for that for now.

MG Hector engine

The MG Hector is expected to come in two engine options – a 1.5 turbo-petrol and also a 2.0 diesel sourced from FCA. Some reports suggest that the Hector will also get a mild hybrid system with start/stop system and regenerative braking. This will allow the car to benefit under the FAME II scheme. The 1.5 -liter motor will produce around 141 BHP and 250 Nm. The 2.0-liter engine is the same as seen on the Tata Harrier and also the Jeep Compass. It will likely produce 171 BHP and 350 Nm of torque.

The Hector is expected to be priced around Rs 16-20 lakh. This puts it right against the likes of the Tata Harrier, Jeep Compass and also the Hyundai Creta.
