The popular luxury carmaker, MG (Morris Garages) is ready to introduce its first ever car, MG Hector for the Indian market. The report was officially announced by the company in an event. The Hector SUV is scheduled to be unwrapped on April 2, this year. The most fascinating thing is that the company has developed the SUV as the most-technologically advanced connected vehicle, integrated with SIM (eSIM) in it.
Chief Commercial Officer, MG Motor India, Gaurav Gupta said, “We will be launching the pure electric SUV in the fourth quarter (October-December) this year. It will be launched in some select cities across the country.” Hector will be the first ever car in the Indian market which will come with OTA technology. This technology is already famous in the international car market.
MG plans to introduce two variant of the SUV which will include a standard variant and a fully-electric version. Although, the electric version will be launched sometimes later. The company has not revealed much about the EV, but it is expected to claim a range of 250 km in full charge. For those who aren’t aware of the OTA technology, it enables the manufacturer to modernise its OS in the cars which will enhance the infotainment features.
The upcoming MG SUV has been tested many times in the country. The production of Hector will locally begin in the British car manufacturer’s plant in Halol, Gujarat. The company has planned to launch one model every year in the country which will begin from 2019. At present, the company produces the SUV in Indonesia (Wuling Almaz) and China (Baojun 530).
The car will be equipped with many high-end features and a luxurious cabin which can highlight a push-button start, panoramic sunroof, comfortable adjustable seats, cruise control and an electronic parking brake. With the latest eSIM feature, the drivers can enjoy upgraded features like navigation, transactions, multimedia and apps. The all-new Hector will be launched in two engine variant which will be BS-VI-compliant.
Hector will be powered by 1.5-litre, direct-injection turbo-petrol mill and an FCA-based 2.0-litre, turbo-diesel powertrain. The company will also offer an automatic transmission as standard. By the next two months, the company has decided to establish 100 showrooms in India. MG has also said that they will soon install charging points in some popular tracks as the electric version will be offered in some regions only. The vehicle will be priced nearly Rs 15 lakh in India. It will rival against Jeep Compass and Hyundai Tucson in terms of pricing.
